Here’s something I don’t hear every day!
“Game Play”, a performing arts festival, centered around video games is set to hit the NYC area for the majority of July (7th – 31st). Typically when I hear about cool events like these, they’re usually over toward the west coast.
Luckily, most of us at The Wired Fish are Bronx dwellers — one cramped subway ride from The Brick, a theater in Brooklyn where the festivities take place.
Recurring events include a strange hybrid of Mortal Kombat and guitars, a retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet told entirely through World of Warcraft and some other live action game/theater/music hybrids that I can’t entirely wrap my head around, so I’ll have to see what they’re all about in person.
One-night events begin on 7/16 with their “Chiptunes Dance Party” beginning at 11pm. The more sexually oriented “Nerdlesque : Game Play Edition” follows on 7/22 at 11:30pm. Finally, on 7/30 at 11pm, the “Rock Band Karaoke Night” kicks off where you can play on their giant screen to support the Child’s Play charity.

My brain's about ready to explode just trying to figure out how this game plays out. Sounds like a blast though!
I’ll probably be hitting up the theater twice : First for the chiptunes and second for that nerd burlesque show. Also on the menu will be the recurring events that happen to fall on those two days (except for that WoW-Shakespeare combo… I hate that game). I encourage any of you guys who are also in the area to check it out!
