Oh? What is this? Looks like a new countdown clock has popped up. This time from Square Enix, and it looks like they’re teasing a new The World Ends With You game. At first it looks like nothing much. Then you hear the music. Since I’m on a big Persona 4 fix now, listening to the music, it sounds very Persona-like. Since P3/P4 and The World Ends With You shares the same Japanese-Pop aesthetic, we can pretty much draw this conclusion. Or you can just ignore my long-winded deducing and look at the bottom of the page and see that Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi are credited as Character Designers. Both worked as artists for The World Ends With You, so it’s pretty safe to say that this is a new TWEWY game. Another hint is in the URL, “subaseka.” In Japan, the game is known as It’s A Wonderful World, or Subarashiki Kono Sekai in Japanese Romanji. So Subaseka is a portmanteau of the game’s Japanese name.
I really wish I played this game when it came out. Hearing lots of good things about it, I feel pretty left out of the loop. If I find a copy though, I might transition pretty well into it–being fresh off Persona 4 and all. There’s 6 Days left to the counter. So by the end of the week something should come out of this. We’ll be there to break it.

Now first off, I have to admit that I’m not quite as taken with the Kingdom Hearts series as I used to be. I really enjoyed the first two numbered titles, but as I played through some of the other games I quickly grew tired of going through the same areas over and over again each game, and of Square’s over-saturation of the franchise, with no true sequel in sight. I’ve heard Birth by Sleep actually remedied this, but I haven’t had the chance to play it and, to be honest, I’m in no rush. However, the one bit of Kingdom Hearts news that actually made my day was the fact that Neku, the protagonist of The World Ends with You, was spotted in Kingdom Hearts 3D.
The World Ends With You was a game I had my eye on since I first caught wind of it and, after starting the game up, I loved every second of it. The game was full of style, fantastic music, interesting characters, and kick-ass gameplay. So hearing this news brings a smile to my face since it seems that Square Enix hasn’t completely forgotten about the title. Oh what I wouldn’t give to see a sequel. Nomura did tell Nintendo Power about a year ago that he would love to do a follow-up to the game when he gets the chance. But we’ll probably have to wait until all of Square Enix’s current projects are over and done with, and who knows how long that will take.
Still, I am intrigued about how they plan to incorporate The World Ends With You into the Kingdom Hearts world, so I’ll keep my eyes open for more info. But regardless, here’s hoping for more The World Ends With You, more Mr. Mew, and more Tin Pin Slammer!
