The Wired Fish Podcast S4 – Episode 3

“Live In Your World. Play In Ours.” That was the slogan for much of the PS2’s lifecycle. While the PS2’s time was long over, that thought was only subjective as games were still being made for it well after its time supposedly passed. Games like Persona 4 and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier were showed that the PS2 still had a beating heart, but it was obvious that it’s days were numbers (or were in fact up). Finally, Sony stepped in to confirm that manufacturing of all PS2 systems had ceased in all territories earlier this year, marking an end to an era. Not since the Japanese Famicom have we seen a console stay in production this long, even after support for the game dropped to near zero. And thus we look back on the era that kicked off the new millennium, the Playstation 2.

Zone of the Enders sequel in the works, HD collection dated for Japan

Today, during the Zone of the Enders HD ReBOOT event in Tokyo, Hideo Kojima shed some light on the Japanese release date for the Zone of the Enders HD collection. It will be invading Japan October 25th, but there’s no news on the release dates for other regions yet. However, the big piece of information that surfaced from the event was that a sequel to the franchise is currently in the works. All we know at this time is that the title is codenamed “Enders Project”, the game is in an early prototyping stage, and that the staff is testing what it can do with the Fox Engine. Kojima mentioned that one of the things they’ve been able to do so far is convert physical models, such as the one below, into three dimensional ones.

How will this new, more organic, look for Orbital Frames fit into the plot?

As a big Zone of the Enders fan, this is a dream come true. It’s been over nine years since the previous installment made it to the states, and a sequel has been far overdue. Plus, I really think Kojima could use a break from the Metal Gear Solid series and revisit some of his other works, or even start working on a new IP. Either way, I’m just stoked this is actually happening.

BBFC Leakes Zone of The Enders HD Collection And Release Date

Fans have been begging for this Kojima classic to make a comeback either with a sequel or an HD port. It looks like their wishes are being granted as the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has rated the game, unintentionally making its existence known to the public. They rated the game 12+ and say that it will come out in the UK on September 1 of this year.

In Zone of the Enders, you piloted a mech across a stage, fighting enemy robots along the way. My only experience with the game was through a demo for the PS2. Unlike other mech games, you had complete control over how you mech flew around. You could shoot at enemies from afar, or come in close for a devastating sword swipe. Besides its unique controls, the game was also known for coming with a demo of the hotly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2. While most people probably bought the game for that demo, it did make fans for Zone of the Enders. Here’s hoping this HD collection doesn’t suffer the same fate of another collection Konami made recently.

Kojima may be announcing new games at E3

PSM3, a UK magazine that covers Sony’s gaming consoles, states that “MGS maestro Hideo Kojima’s got some big announcements for E3 in June: one a quasi-logical step for an existing game, the other…”

This excerpt only leaves us in suspense, but I’m sure everyone is already wondering which existing game the magazine is talking about. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is one of, if not the biggest, gaming events of the year. If Kojima’s saving these announcements for it, then you know the games are gonna be huge.

Personally, I’m hoping for a new Zone of the Enders game. Come on Kojima, it’s been a long enough wait.
