Next up is Sony’s time in the spotlight. Sony dropped the mic last year when it took jabs at Microsoft’s DRM policy with withe their Xbox One. The PS4 launch was strong, but not a lot of big games have come out for it, at least not exclusively. While the PS4 leads in the graphics and hardware department, there are still some that are hanging tight to the 7th generation as games are still releasing on the PS3 and Xbox 360. On the Vita, while it is getting the identity as the Niche Gamer’s Handheld, sales of the Vita are still a little slow to move. They did reveal the new Vita slim however, but it still needs that big game that moves the handheld in the sales department. What will Sony show off to attract more people to their newer systems? Will they once again drop the mic like last year? Or will they be on the receiving of said mic dropping?

Cancelled Stage And Updated Menu Design For Playstation All-Stars Leaked Online
Due to lack of support and poor sales of Playstation All-Stars and its DLC characters, all future updates for the game has since been cancelled and SuperBot disbanded. As a result, former employees are coming forward showcasing what could’ve been. Last time, we saw images of Legend of Dragoon‘s Dart in the works. Now, we have an entire stage on the cutting room floor. In keeping with the mash-up theme of the PSAS stages, the stage in question was a cross between Gravity Rush and Journey. From the looks of it, the stage would start off on the Gravity Rush part. Then the side of the building would begin to tumble around, parts would start falling off, and sort of drift into Journey. Makes you wonder if there was a mash-up of Gravity Rush and Journey music. Oh what could’ve been…

[Rumor] DLC Characters For PlayStation All-Stars Cancelled, Dart Left In Limbo
For once can we get some kind of good news regarding Legend of Dragoon? PlayStation All-Stars, Sony’s answer to Super Smash Bros., had the advantage of having more characters added to the roster post-release, something that was never done for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros Brawl. Unfortunately, that advantage seems to have been cut short as rumors began circulating that all future DLC plans have been cancelled. Shuhei Yoshida stated this, citing poor sales of the previous DLC characters Zeus and Isaac Clark (Not sure about Kat and Emmett since they were free at first).
[E3 2013] Sony Press Conference Live Reaction
Some would say Sony had a rather lackluster reveal of their PS4. Some say they had a better one due to Xbox One’s reveal and post-show PR being a travesty. We’ve seen the games, we’ve seen the controller, and we’ve seen some of the plans that Sony has with the PS4. However, in light of the things Xbox One is doing (namely limiting used games and required internet connection), there’s still some unanswered questions. Will Sony answer them? Will we see some cool games? Will they finally announce something regarding The Last Guardian!?

Zeus And Isaac Clarke Join The Fray In Playstation All-Stars
Fresh off releasing Kat and Emmet for Playstation All-Stars, Sony has revealed two new characters for their take on the Party Fighter genre. First up is the main villain of the God of War series and and king of the gods, Zeus. He’s being set as a hard-hitting character, dishing out large, one-hit moves that send his opponents back and yields much buildup of his meter. His level 1 super is a standard, short-range move that can take out more than one character if timed correctly. His level 2 makes him levitate, following up with an attack that’ll KO his opponents. His level 3 turns him gargantuan, moving to the background (a la God of War III) and punching out his foes in one hit. The God of War series is the first one in PSAS to have two different characters (if you don’t count Evil Cole), i.e. there’s now a hero and a villain from a game. This opens the doors for more villains (or even sidekicks) from already represented series to come in. Could we be seeing Baron Praxis next?
The Captains Speaketh – Playstation 4 Reveal
And so Sony has revealed the PS4 last Wednesday, and with it a new venture into a more social experience with the console itself. The controller includes a touchpad similar to the one found on the back of the Playstation Vita, only this time it is in the front of the controller and in the center of the controller. Included on the controller is a Share button that will enable players to upload gameplay onto the Playstation Network and stream it live. Sony is also pushing cloud services, which is now viable for Sony after purchasing Gaikai a while back. The games themselves will also sport a new coat of graphical paint (of course) and seek to make interaction with others more feasible.
However there are still some things on our minds about the PS4, like how much it will cost, how much will the games cost, the format of the games, and the much rumored feature of used games being block? Join us as we discuss our thought on the Playstation 4.
PlayStation 4 Conference Wrap-Up
Today marked the next step in the transition to the Next Generation. Sony revealed the much rumored PlayStation 4, the successor to the PS3. In the conference they revealed the Dualshock 4, a controller similar to the Dualshocks before it, only this time sporting a front-facing touchpad similar to the back-facing Playstation Vita. Sony also revealed its plans to utilize cloud services thanks to its purchasing of Gaikai. Above all, they showed off the games that they’ll be bringing to the table when the PS4 launches this holiday, 2013. After the break, a visual rundown of what went down during the conference.

Happy Late New Year! Well, I got a good month off from doing this segment, but it’s time Night-Time Listenings returned. And since this is a new year, let’s head to the future, all the way to the year of the futuristic racers. So all this week we payed homage to the Futuristic racer, which was filled with crunchy guitars, thumping basses, and speaker busting noises. Featured this week was F-ZERO, Extreme G, Kinetica, F-ZERO GX, and Wipeout HD Fury.

The Wired Fish Podcast S4 – Episode 3
“Live In Your World. Play In Ours.” That was the slogan for much of the PS2’s lifecycle. While the PS2’s time was long over, that thought was only subjective as games were still being made for it well after its time supposedly passed. Games like Persona 4 and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier were showed that the PS2 still had a beating heart, but it was obvious that it’s days were numbers (or were in fact up). Finally, Sony stepped in to confirm that manufacturing of all PS2 systems had ceased in all territories earlier this year, marking an end to an era. Not since the Japanese Famicom have we seen a console stay in production this long, even after support for the game dropped to near zero. And thus we look back on the era that kicked off the new millennium, the Playstation 2.

Super Smash Bros. And Playstation All-Stars: What Can They Learn From Each Other?
As soon as Playstation All-Stars was announced and shown, the world erupted into what could be called a fanboy clusterfuck. While other games using the Smash Bros. formula have popped-up, most notably Jump Superstars, They’ve not garnered the vitriolic fervor that PSAS has gained. Being the level-headed console/pc agnostic I am, I was curious what developer Superbot would pull off. Super Smash Bros. has been largely uncontested in this genre of fighter, so seeing Playstation All-Stars, at first party attempt, appear as a contender can only be seen as a good thing for both games. As they say, competition breeds quality that is passed on to the consumer. And now that we have the console giants duking it out, what can these two games learn from each other?
Kat And Emmett Join Playstation All-Stars As Free DLC (For The First Two Weeks)
If there’s one thing I can say about Playstation All-Stars, it’s one big sausage fest. Even Fat Princess notices how many dudes are in this games. So the ladies’ side will get a newcomer in the form of Kat from Gravity Rush. Released on the PSVita, Gravity Rush saw Kat manipulate gravity to lift up objects, run up walls, and hurl herself at enemies with devastating kicks. She’ll be bringing her gravitational expertise to the ring in Playstation All-Stars.
Joining her is Emmett Graves from StarHawk, the sequel to PS3 version of WarHawk, In StarHawk, on top of taking down enemies on-foot, you were able to pilot mechs that could both walk and fly. In Playstation All-Stars, Emmett brings a mech with him for his level 3 super. The kicker is when it ends. It’s not quite over as the mech will fly by one more time to drop three bombs on the whole battlefield.
Both characters will be available on February 12 and will be free for two weeks ($3 afterwards). So remember that date if you want to avoid paying. Trailer for Emmett after the break.

Over time, you see something in videogame development that turns the tide. Suddenly everyone wants to ride that wave. Then we get used to it, almost to the point of conditioning. Everyone expects a game to have a feature. Think two genres, the Hack n Slash, and the Platformer. In the hack n slash, you expect huge waves of enemies, crazy combos, and some riddles you might solve. Now think about platformers. You expect crazy level design, tricky jumps, and a spin attack. These have become essentials to their respective genres. And then Shadow of the Colossus comes in and dares us to change our perception of these genres. Defying the usual conventions of game design, it dared to do away with a few essentials to drive forth its minimalist approach and to engage the player in a way that hasn’t been since in a long time. How did it work out?
[NYCC 2012] Hands-On With God of War: Ascension (Multiplayer)
Kratos is back and still ad angry as ever. However, we’re not here to see his anger. Instead, we’re here to see the multiplayer mode and to evaluate this mode has a chance of standing side-by-side with the single-player campaign.
Gesfrid: For the 1st time ever, SCE Santa Monica Studio has introduced a multiplayer feature for up to 8 players on the latest God of War game. In the beginning of the game, players can choose and customize their spartan warrior. The multiplayer game takes place on a desert. Players are on two teams of four where they will try to take control of the map so they can earn their rewards from the Gods. In the desert map, players will battle each other and go up against the giant Cyclops named Polyphemus in the background. The game offers a unique combat play-style and abilities in battle. Just like any other previous God of War game, players can use magic spells, select a variety of deadly weapons, open up chest to find orbs to heal your life or to upgrade your weapon up to a maximum level.
There is a mode called “Favor of the Gods”. In this mode, the 1st player to accumulate a target amount points will achieve victory. Points are earned by kills and is known as “Favor”. The Team can capture altars (which is quite similar to capture-the-flag) and they can also set up traps for opposing players. Another new control feature that was introduced is called “Escape and Heal” meaning you get to escape from opposing player grabbing you, then jump and heal yourself. Whoever captures the most gears and earn the most favor points, the Gods will award you with the spear of Olympus which will be used to annihilate Polyphemus and then the winning team will be able to gain it’s territory. However if the other team gain it’s territory, the giant cyclops will go back to its position and then the spear of Olympus will be lost. Overall, it is a very fun, great game so that millions of players can experience the new elements/features of God of War. Go forth in the name of Olympus!
Kevin Butler Actor Was Sued By Sony
Of the many titles Kevin Butler has donned during his tenure at Sony, VP of Lawsuit Defendant would probably be the last thing on his mind. The lawsuit was sparked after Jerry Lambert, who plays Kevin Butler in Sony’s Playstation 3 ads, appeared in a Bridgestone commercial as one of the scientists testing out tires. The ad was part of Bridgestone’s GameOn campaign where a tire purchase could net you a free Nintendo Wii. In the commercial itself, the scientists, including Lambert, are seen playing Mario Kart Wii. Sony wasn’t too fond of the man playing and advertising a competitor’s game and console, and on September 11th they filed a lawsuit against him citing IP violation. Bridgestone proceeded to remove Lambert’s image from all of their ads for the remainder of their campaign. This begs the question though: are they suing him for portraying a very similar character, or are they suing him for that plus associating himself with a competitor. I have a feeling that they would’ve let him be if he was doing something else as the character. But since he was playing a Wii, that probably wasn’t flying with Sony.
Either way, it looks like both parties might be coming to an out-of-court settlement. In a filing, the lawyer representing Sony called the courtroom deputy and said that they were coming to an agreement. The court then ordered Sony, “by October 12, 2012, to either: (1) withdraw the ex parte motion; or (2) file a status update describing the current status of the dispute and whether a ruling on the motion will be necessary.” So currently the case is still ongoing, but it looks like it’ll all come to an end soon. I guess we can rule out Kevin Butler being in Playstation All-Stars then huh?
