Scott Pilgrim vs the World getting online multiplayer dlc this month

Now imagine this craziness online…

A look at the upcoming XBLA release schedule revealed some pretty interesting news today. Appearing quite randomly, Scott Pilgrim vs the World is listed as getting new DLC later this month. The DLC will add online multiplayer to the title and will also include Wallace Wells as a new playable character.

I have to admit, after the Knives Chau add-on, I didn’t expect to see any more support of the title. But hey, having online multiplayer added to one of my favorite downloadable titles of this generation isn’t a bad surprise at all. The DLC is only confirmed for XBLA at the moment and will be available to download for 400 MS points on August 19th. Hopefully news of a PSN release will soon follow.

Did A Wii Virtual Console Game Release With Online Play? Yes, Yes It Did.

The game? Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers for the SEGA Genesis. Wow. Y’know, I gotta give props to Capcom for this. They managed to do something that not even Nintendo thought of doing with their own games. Since the start of the Wii’s Virtual Console service, many had hoped that many of those old classics would have online multiplayer; Super Mario Bros., Joe & Mac, F-ZERO X, Bubble Bobble, Secret of Mana, and many other games with great multiplayer. But the games released would just be straight ports with no new bells and whistles added. But Capcom sought to fix this and added online multiplayer for the Genesis version Super Street Fighter II:The New Challengers. Makes a bit of sense though since the original had XBAND support. Unfortunately they may not be able to add it for the SNES version since they’ve long since released it. It may not mean much since the Wii’s life is close to the end. But hopefully sends a message to Nintendo and other companies that it’d be awesome for these old games to have online multiplayer. If Nintendo continues VC service on the 3DS and resumes the line on the Wii U, this feature would be more than a welcome addition.

So big ups Capcom, big ups.

New Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 info surfaces, will feature online multiplayer

A listing for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 has cropped up on the Xbox Live Marketplace with new info and screens of the game, which can be seen after the jump. The game, according to the listing, will feature four new zones, a new special stage, an updated physics engine, and both offline and online multiplayer with Tails.

This may have been an oversight, as Sega may have had other plans on how to reveal more info on the game, but my attention shifted elsewhere the moment I heard “multiplayer” and “Tails”.  I have fond memories of playing the genesis era Sonic games with my cousin.  Of course, he’d be stuck as Tails, but that’s another story. I’m pretty sure that many Sonic fans have nostalgic memories of Sonic 2 and 3‘s multiplayer, so what I’m really excited about is the online component. Allowing both players to have their own screens gives Sega the potential to really improve on the original formula. Rather than having Tails go on autopilot whenever he’s left behind or runs too far ahead, the person controlling Tails may be able to split up from Sonic and explore different parts of the level. Or if the two players want to focus on working together, it should be easier now since one wouldn’t have to worry about keeping the exact same pace as the other. All in all, if Sega takes advantage of that, I think it would be an update many Sonic fans could appreciate. That, and I think a lot more people would be volunteering to play as Tails.
