NightTime Listening – Emotional Themes

We gamers don’t like to admit it sometimes, but we do cry in our games. Not because the game is brutally hard and it’s killing us to tears. But themes that, for whatever reason, makes us tear up a bit. Whether it’s the way it’s composed, or the situation that it’s related to, someone’s gonna get misty eyed when listening to them. Below are four themes that will get you a little emotional once you’re done with them. I’m putting a spoiler warning since most of these either pertain to a major event in the game or is an ending theme.

NightTime Listening – Shatter

I remember first hearing the music from the Shatter soundtrack from YouTuber SupraDarky. Immediately, the music had me wondering what kind of game this was. Seeing only blocks stacked on top of each other on the cover of the soundtrack (the image that SupraDarky had on the video), it all looked abstract to me. A search on YouTube for Shatter, and it turned out to be an Arkanoid clone. However, I stopped short of calling it that as it seems to have surpassed even Arkanoid. I knew right then and there that I wanted to get the game. Before I got the game, I listened to some more of the music from the game. I ended up listening to the whole soundtrack before playing the game, but that’s alright. It still didn’t deter my enjoyment of the game or the music. So then, here’s three entries from the game we’ll be listening to today.

We’re gonna listen to five songs that deal with the issue of love…or lack thereof. The song’s aren’t themselves Anti-Valentine’s, but it can be construed as such. First, we’re getting happy, getting even more bitter with each entry. Without further ado, let’s get hatin’!

NightTime Listening – Toki Asako

Tonight listening comes in the form of smooth jazz. Okay, to be honest, I’m not sure if I can label this artist as smooth jazz. You see, there are some songs that tend to have a…weird kind of composition (you’ll see that after the jump). Regardless, Toki Asako is something rare from the Land of the Rising Sun, home of ear piercing-pop music and candy-colored everything. Last semester, my playlist grew to include j-pop music, but down the line I wanted to add something more than just pop. Several weeks ago, I was introduced to Asako’s music (thanks sis!) and since then I’ve been addicted to the soft sounds of her music.
