The semester has just started, but already the work is piling on and the first grades are probably in. We know you’re stressed out already. So here’s your chance to take a break from the mayhem, and break your opponent with a crazy ass combo! This tournament, held by the Bushido Anime Club and VGA, will be taking place at Lehman College’s Student Life Building. The campus is located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, NY. If you’re going by train, your best bet is to take the 4 Train or the D Train. This is open to all CUNY students. The Student Life Building is located at the southern section of the campus. You are on the second floor when you enter the building, so you must go downstairs.

Art of the Week: Feature 5 – Dave Wilkins

Recognize that picture up there? Of course ya do! It was used in magazine ads when Marvel vs Capcom 3 was still in full hype mode. This artwork was made by an artist named Dave Wilkins. He currently works as a comic artist for Marvel Comics, along with doing concept art for other mediums including films and videogames. One thing you’ll notice right away is his excellent use of color and lighting. Another neat visual aspect of Mr. Wilkin’s artwork is the visible brush strokes on parts with maximum lighting and shadows. I’m a big fan of techniques like this as it shows the processes that the artist takes in coloring and gives a picture a sense of movement. This is especially prevalent in his concept art for Splatterhouse, as every punch, kick, and blood splatter delivered by Rick looks like someone was there and took a picture of Rick mid-asskicking. Speaking of which, you should check out the Fangoria cover he made featuring Splatterhouse. The story behind it is freaking awesome and inspirational for anyone that wants to get into the field he’s in. His main base of operations is his website, davewilkinsart.com. You can also catch his gallery over at deviantART as well.

Hit the jump for a taste of his artwork.

Ultimate MvC3 confirmed, coming in November [Update]

We’ve all been hearing about the recent rumor that Capcom may be giving MvC3 the Super Street Fighter treatment, but it looks like we don’t have to wonder anymore, it’s official…Ultimate MvC3 is happening. Along with the announcement, Capcom has released a debut trailer, which can be seen above, to showcase some of the new changes. From what’s shown in the video, we can see that several characters have new and altered moves, and the game will be adding Ghost Rider, Strider Hiryu, Hawkeye, and Firebrand to it’s roster, with more characters to be revealed in the future.

I have to say, this news doesn’t make me very happy. It doesn’t help that the original MvC3 has only been out for about 5 months. That fact aside, maybe it’s because I’m still torn over Capcom’s decision to cancel Megaman Legends 3, a game that a large number of fans have been waiting over 10 years for. Or perhaps it’s because, while I can still enjoy MvC3 to a degree, the game felt incomplete from the get go and this just feels like a way to squeeze more money out of the franchise. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s because Capcom has been slowly decaying into a nearly unrecognizable shell of its former self during this console generation, screwing over fans left and right. Regardless of the reason, Ultimate MvC3 is coming in November, and it’s coming to stay.

Update: All 12 new characters have been leaked, you can see the list and pictures after the jump.

See Jill And Shuma Gorath in Action

Capcom has just released a pair of trailers for the two DLC characters that will be available for MVC3, Jill and Shuma Gorath. This isn’t the first time that Jill’s been beating the crap out of the Marvel characters, as she made her debut in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, together with Zombies, dogs, and crows (and even Tyrant). But she’ll be shedding all that extra baggage for more acrobatics, taking after her appearance in Resident Evil 5. I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce her S.T.A.R.S. uniform (or RE3 outfit) as an alternate costume for her.

And there’s Shuma Gorath. I don’t know much about him, other than that he’s from the Dr. Strange comics and that I’ve never read those.

Both Shuma and Jill will each cost $5. If you bought the limited edition, they’re free.
