Arc System Works Teasing Something BloodRayne Related

ArcSys BloodRayne teaserLast time Arc System Works teased something, we came away rather disappointed. This time though, it looks like they’ll be trying their hand at the BloodRayne franchise. Not much is known beyond what is shown on the teaser site itself. All we see is a countdown and some text above it. “She who fights with monsters might take care lest she thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you,” is written.

A New Wheel Of Fate Is Turning: BlazBlue Chronophantasma Revealed

As the U.S. starts their journey on Persona 4 Arena this week, Arc System Works has revealed the next chapter in the BlazBlue storyline, BlazBlue Chronophantasma. With this new bitch-to-type entry comes three new characters. The ultra feminine kimono-wearing Amane Nishiki, the ballistics packer Bullet, and the diesel as hell Azrael. Everyone else, save for Nu and Lambda, makes a return in this entry with new portraits and new moves at their disposal. Now keep in mind, this is definitely another sequel to BlazBlue, not an update like some of these poor chaps are thinking. Calamity Trigger was the first. Continuum Shift was the sequel. Continuum Shift II and Extend were updates. Chronophantasma is an new entry, not an update. One observant fan also noticed some new changes that will be introduced in this game, like removal of guard primers, a new Overdrive mechanic, and redrawn neutral sprites.

See the reveal of this game only reminds me that I still have… Calamity Trigger to finish. Dear lord do I still have a long way to go. Welp, time to get crackin’! Chronophantasma is set to release this Winter in Japan. U.S. release is TBA, but it’s highly likely it’ll come here too in the future.

5 Songs to Celebrate Chinese New Year

I forgot that Chinese New Year was happening this week. Chinese New Year (or Lunar New Year) is celebrated for four days (first day is the eve of it, the other three is the real deal). This year marks the Year of the Dragon, one of the more awesome signs of the Chinese Zodiac. Plus I was born that year too. So what better way to celebrate Chinese New Year than to listen to some Chinese inspired videogame music. Since most games back then were made in Japan, there’s a slight tinge of stereotyping by the Japanese here, but then again they made some awesome music. More recent games have been a bit more fair when using Chinese instruments and melodies and creating something worth listening to. Since most of the songs I’ve heard came from fighting games, most of these will be from that genre. Anyway, get the fireworks ready and start-a-listening! Continue reading

The Cosplayers of New York Comic-Con

It’s time to take a break from the videos and look at the other attractions that populated Comic Con. No, it wasn’t all the free schwag we got (though we’ll be making an article about that later). It’s the cosplayers, and boy were there many. With the Jacob Javits Center packed to the brim with comic fans, animation and anime fans, and gamers (and nary a jock in sight), you were bound to bump into a cosplayer or two (or, say, seven). As many of you know, cosplay is serious business, and these people were ready to display the best of what they had. We have over 70 pictures, and you can view them all after the break! Are You A Stressed College Student? Take It Out At Lehman’s Fighting Game Tournament!

The semester has just started, but already the work is piling on and the first grades are probably in. We know you’re stressed out already. So here’s your chance to take a break from the mayhem, and break your opponent with a crazy ass combo! This tournament, held by the Bushido Anime Club and VGA, will be taking place at Lehman College’s Student Life Building. The campus is located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, NY. If you’re going by train, your best bet is to take the 4 Train or the D Train. This is open to all CUNY students. The Student Life Building is located at the southern section of the campus. You are on the second floor when you enter the building, so you must go downstairs.

Get ready to turn the wheel of fate, and FIGHT!

[Update] More P4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena Screenshots + Trailer

And just when I thought Atlus and Arc System Works would remain hush for a while after revealing Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, here they come with more screens. From the looks of it, this game is going have more flash than MvC3 on acid. One thing I never noticed was Rise next to the portraits of the fighters cheering you on. Though, given the context that she’s friends with everyone revealed so far (except for Aigis), she might serve more of a purpose than being a cheerleader. Also, the debate over the P4 antagonist’s name has been settled, as he’ll go by his anime name, Yu Narukami (as o opposed to the fan favorite manga name, Souji Seta). We also see more of the characters’ Personas dishing out some attacks. My assumption is that either you have to build up that super meter at the bottom to call them out for a super, or they’ll just come out for a quick moment for special attacks.  We’ll know more as time goes. In the mean time, hit the jump to see some screens [UPDATE] and the trailer!
