[April Fools] Nintendo And Hasbro Announce Kirby X My Little Pony

Kirby X My Little Pony (1.1)

If you thought Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem was a weird crossover, then get a load of this. With the premier of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in Japan close as hand, Nintendo and Hasbro announced that they’ll be partnering up to create a crossover game, tentatively titled Kirby X My Little Pony. While development is still in its early stages, Nintendo was willing to share some info regarding how the story will pan out and how the game will play.

Mane6 Is Getting The Skullgirls Engine! And Robo Fortune Will Become An Actual Character!

Mane 6 Z Engine

Looks like that C&D might’ve been a blessing in disguise. Not only is Friendship is Magic creator Lauren Faust in the Mane6 dev team, they now has access to the engine that helped make Skullgirls. Before all this, Mane6 was using Fighter Maker 2000, an old program they had to tinker with to get it to do what they wanted for their My Little Pony fighting game, Fighting is Magic. MikeZ, the creator of Skullgirls, offered to give Mane6 the Skullgirls Engine, also called the Z Engine. They declined the offer since development was very far long and porting would require starting from scratch.

Well, the C&D essentially made them start from scratch (minus the ponies of course). So now the option became available and the team can make a game using all the techniques and effects the Z Engine has to offer.

Rumor: Is Disney Seeking To Buy Out Hasbro?

Last week while Hurricane Sandy forced me to go offli–wait I said that last time. Er, last week the sci-fi world was abuzz with news that Disney had acquired LucasFilm and LucasArts from George Lucas, and with it all the IPs associated with both branches, including Indiana Jones, Monkey Island, and Star Wars. But it looks like Disney wasn’t done. Rumors are now surfacing that Disney is seeking to acquire toy giant Hasbro. The company currently has the rights to Transformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Littlelest Pet Shop, and TV network The Hub. According to MTV Geek, the talks are still in the discussion phase, but are “serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry.” As MTV Geek points out, Hasbro has collaborated with Disney when it came to the Marvel properties with some table-top games among other things.

Personally, this could really mean a straight up acquisition, OR it could be a another collaboration between Disney and Hasbro for a toyline with Marvel or their new playmate Star Wars. This seems a little too major for it to be taken seriously though, so take this with a grain of salt. As long as they don’t don’t fuck up the ponies…

How Card F41 Got Me Into Another Card Craze (And Why I Got Out In The First Place)

It might not be obvious to some of our readers out there, but a few of us on the staff are Bronies (male adult fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic). I’m especially hyped to finally see Season 3 starting up on November 10th. There’s an unfinished, unpublished article right now explaining this little cartoon renaissance I went through last year that started with my watching of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and then spread into shows like Adventure Time, Gumball, Regular Show, Transformers Prime, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, and The Looney Toons show. When it came to the merch of My Little Pony, from the beginning I said I wouldn’t buy the toys. Yeaaah… But make no mistake, I loathe the brushables and much prefer the molded hair ponies. And I’m still not interested in buying those small blindbag ponies (even though I’m constantly tempted when they actually bother making a new mold instead of Mortal Kombat-ing the whole thing).

But one thing I wanted to avoid was the trading cards. My personal experience with trading cards is… somewhat turbulent early on and ended with a silent phase out at the conclusion of my highschool years. So what’s getting me back into trading cards again? What is it about this cross-eyed little wonder that’s enticing me into collecting these small pieces of printed paper. Hit the jump and find out.

[NYCC 2012] The Cosplayers of New York Comic-Con 2012

One thing you can expect when going to a convention is cosplayers. Lots of ’em. There’s some good ones, and some bad ones. But at The Wired Fish, only the best get their pictures taken and shown. Like last year, this was joint effort between TWF staff members. So sit back and check out some of the awesome cosplay pics. They’ve also been named for your convenience. Uh… a little sidenote, there’s a few characters that unfortunately I don’t know the names to. So if you can help me identify them, that’d be greatly appreciate it! [Update] More photos added at the end. Also, two characters identified! All characters identified! Thanks Lewis and Val.

My Little Pony takes over Skyrim, beware of Fluttershy!

Hide your children, the ponies are coming! A recent mod for Skyrim changes all the dragons in the game into ponies from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. To be more specific, the dragons have now become a legion of Fluttershy that bring destruction to any and all who cross their path.

I have to admit, while I’m not a pc gamer, this is one of the main attractions of pc gaming in my book. I really like the notion of random user-generated mods and content that can be creative, fun, and add more replayability to titles. f you’d like the mod for yourself, you can find it here. But you must excuse me for now, I have to go back to watching Fluttershy burn down some towns.
