Halloween. A time for tricks, scares, and costumes. A time to exploit the emotion that grips many of us when it rears its ugly head: Fear. In videogames, there are unnerving things that we aren’t really ready for when they happen, or that make us jump out when they happen. In this list, I’ll be showcasing things in videogames that just scare the crap outta me. Did it make me jump? Was there a moment of tension? Or was there a place that I wanted to leave quickly? Hit the jump, and lets explore my Top 10 Moments in Videogames That Scared The Crap Outta Me.
Fresh off releasing Kat and Emmet for Playstation All-Stars, Sony has revealed two new characters for their take on the Party Fighter genre. First up is the main villain of the God of War series and and king of the gods, Zeus. He’s being set as a hard-hitting character, dishing out large, one-hit moves that send his opponents back and yields much buildup of his meter. His level 1 super is a standard, short-range move that can take out more than one character if timed correctly. His level 2 makes him levitate, following up with an attack that’ll KO his opponents. His level 3 turns him gargantuan, moving to the background (a la God of War III) and punching out his foes in one hit. The God of War series is the first one in PSAS to have two different characters (if you don’t count Evil Cole), i.e. there’s now a hero and a villain from a game. This opens the doors for more villains (or even sidekicks) from already represented series to come in. Could we be seeing Baron Praxis next?
For eight days we covered the topic of Halloween. The music we listened to ranged from dark, to mellow, to unnerving. We took a breather in Resident Evil. Dreaded the Ishimura in Dead Space. We walked the haunted halls of Luigi’s Mansion. We braced for hell in Silent Hill 3. We feared the Alchemy Lab in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. We feared pianos in Super Mario 64. We inquired about the life of Boos in Super Mario Galaxy. And finally we ended where we began with another Resident Evil composition.
If you want to see the music as it goes up (and not wait every Saturday for these wrap-ups), remember to go to our Tumblr page and follow it. Music for Night-Time Listenings goes up every weekday at 10PM.
One thing you can expect when going to a convention is cosplayers. Lots of ’em. There’s some good ones, and some bad ones. But at The Wired Fish, only the best get their pictures taken and shown. Like last year, this was joint effort between TWF staff members. So sit back and check out some of the awesome cosplay pics. They’ve also been named for your convenience.
Uh… a little sidenote, there’s a few characters that unfortunately I don’t know the names to. So if you can help me identify them, that’d be greatly appreciate it! [Update] More photos added at the end. Also, two characters identified! All characters identified! Thanks Lewis and Val.
