The 2012 Capcom Captivate conference held in Rome last week (April 2-4), is the largest event of its kind for Capcom. It allows the video game company to display some of their highly anticipated projects and tease others. With an embargo placed on all attendees until April 10th 11amEST, details were scarce.
Luckily for us, the team behind the marketing campaign for Resident Evil 6 has been releasing tidbits throughout the past couple months but they have amped it up in the past 2 weeks.
If you have a Wii and are planning to get Xenoblade, I would just like to warn you that Xenoblade is printed on a Dual-Layered Disc. If you remember, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Other M were also dual-layered discs as well (indicated by their gold-colored reading surface), and we all remember the news about people who had trouble with their Wii reading Smash Bros. Brawl. Well, it seems to be happening again with the much anticipated Xenoblade Chronicles. I looked around to see if anyone was having this problem and it seems like this issue is popping up in some places as well, including Gamespot and IGN. At first it may seem like a problem with the disc. It you get an error, check the disc and clean off any scuff that might be on it and put it back in. If the Wii still can’t read it, than it’s the Wii’s lens that is the problem.
When this happened last time with Smash Bros, Nintendo said that it was a problem with the Wii’s lens being dirty and that they would take in the Wii to be repaired (i.e. cleaned). About a year later Nintendo released a cleaning solution to the public to buy. Amazon has the kit for $30, but you can get it from ShopNintendo for $10. Youtuber Kermit1986 shows how this cleaning kit works since he had trouble getting his Wii to read Smash Bros. Brawl. Personally, what I did was I turned my (launch) Wii off and blew on the disc slot (like Kermit did) and put Xenoblade in. I got an error message. So took the game out, turned off the Wii and readied two other games: Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy 2, a Dual-Layered and Single-Layered Disc respectively. So I inserted Smash Bros. first and it loaded fine. Then I inserted Galaxy 2 and it loaded fine as well. Then the moment of truth. I inserted Xenoblade and it too loaded fine. But just to be sure I started the game up to see if it would go through all the way (since all it did last time upon loading was kick me back to the Wii Menu). But, it loaded fine and I resumed playing. I’ll update if this happens to me again.
[UPDATE] OpRainfall has caught wind of this and has posted a link to Nintendo’s support page regarding Xenoblade and Wiis not reading the game.
And here we are, the last Mega Man game for Mega March (sorta). This weekend, we go back in time to talk about the game that many Mega Man fans herald as the best of the series; the pebble that started the avalanche. Whether it was for its gameplay, its music, or its weapons, Mega Man II has found its way into many top ten lists, music remixes, and tons of fan art. And so, we end off Mega March with the last game I’ve played so far, Mega Man II. Why is it the last so far? Well, hit the jump to find out.
I wondered about this since the beginning of March if people would be able to buy Xenoblade without having to Preorder. I already preordered the game, but I’m just curious since since Nintendo’s lack of faith in the game selling made it seem like one of those preorder exclusive deals. Thankfully GoNintendo had the answer, and the official word from Nintendo is that they “…can confirm the Xenoblade Chronicles will be available exclusively for purchase through U.S. Gamestop retail locations…Nintendo never stated that it will only be available to those who preorder it.” So going by their word, you don’t necessarily need to preorder to score a copy of the game. But then again, it’s best to preorder anyways to make the numbers look good ahead of time.
Now The Last Story, that’s a different… err story. While you can probably get away with not pre-ordering Xenoblade and pick up on-the-spot, XSEED will be practicing the Niche Publisher Limited Run scheme that has been successful so far for publishers like NIS America, Atlus, and XSEED themselves. In other words, The Last Story will have a limited run in the U.S. and XSEED will print copies close to the number of pre-orders that they get. So if you want to score yourself a copy of The Last Story, you’re better off preordering. Thankfully the game will be stocked “at any retailer that wishes to stock it.” So if you hate Gamestop, you can get it at another store, like Game Champ!

Remember that announcement of an HD port of Jet Set Radio posted some time ago. I’m not saying it’s dead, but after reading this you might be a bit concerned. Citing financial difficulties in the last fiscal year (which ended last Saturday), Sega has layoff many workers from both its U.S. and European branches and downsizing the company to maintain “sustainable profitability.” In light of this, Sega also mentioned that for these markets, they’ll now focus more on games that are sure-fire his for them including Sonic, Total War, Aliens, and Football Manager. This puts other projects in danger of cancellation or being left to fend for themselves, which include Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Anarchy Reigns, Yakuza 5, and the aforementioned Jet Set Radio HD port. While Sega did mention that they have cancelled games, all of them so far are unspecified (i.e. never shown to the public). But still, this puts much concern on which projects Sega will give us now as they too are yet another victim of believing Westerners like their guns and football (save for Sonic). And the sad thing about all this: What they believe is right.
The first quarter has ended. And so far it’s a sad year to be a gamer. Maybe those crazy Mayans were right.

I’ve never been a very big fan of April Fools’ Day. Not that I hate it or anything, I just don’t love it either. However, things like this are some of the best products of the holiday. Here we have a trailer made by a talented group of people who show us what a Kinect version of Assassin’s Creed would be like.
As ridiculous as the game seems, it looks pretty damn hardcore! Maybe Ubisoft should take notes, this could be gaming gold. But in all seriousness, I’m looking forward to seeing more videos from these guys if they decide to make this a regular thing. My only fear is seeing that duel wielding little girl again, she freaked me the hell out.

For some odd reason, longtime fans of the Mega Man series weren’t too thrilled about Mega Man’s jump to 3D and playing it like an RPG. But there were still fans of the original Legends and, to this day, still talk about it. So Capcom saw fit to make a sequel to it, Mega Man Legends 2, and continue the story that the original left open. The Bonnes have returned to less money, Glyde’s crew is on the rise, and the secret to Mega Man Volnutt’s past is about to be revealed. We continue Mega March with Mega Man Legends 2.
In a shocking turn of events (this is Capcom after all), Capcom has confirmed that they’ll be resuming development of Mega Man Legends 3. After evaluating what they had so far before the cancellation and what was left to still develop, they realized that the 3DS may not have the space required for what they want to implement. Weighing the options, they decided to move this game to the Wii U. When asked why they decided on the Wii U, a representative replied “We felt that as a company, we want to appeal to a many consumers as possible, and we feel that the Wii U and its Tablet Controller has the potential for that.” Typical canned response, though they probably want to make nice with Nintendo after nixing their initial plans with the 3DS version.
As for why they revived the project, another rep responded “We didn’t quite meet the quota that was expected with some of our recent releases.” And what about Inafune? And the work that the fans submitted to the DevRoom last year. “We haven’t heard anything from him. But I’m certain he wishes the dev team the best of luck. As for the DevRoom submissions, we will bring those back but on a more limited basis. We want to be careful and not displease any fans in the event another cancellation, or something similar, happens.”
So far Capcom is keeping mum on how they will use the tablet controller of the Wii U. But they were nice enough to give us a few screenshots. There’s no specific release date, but Capcom has said that they’re aiming for an early April 2013 release.

Now that Mega Man X made a memorable splash on the Playstation (and Saturn), it was time for the X-treme blue bomber to make another. But creator Keiji Inafune wanted this to be the last MMX game before moving into the handheld space for the next step in the series. References are made, a new Maverick naming scheme pops up, more armor is made available, the world is at stake, and a fan favorite meets his grim end (again). After the break, Mega Man X5
A while ago I expressed concern over the fate of Ignition Entertainment and what Disney might do to the company now that it owns a commanding share of UTV, Ignition’s parent company. Well, two bits of info has surfaced. First the good news. Ignition has announced that it’ll be bringing over Magical Drop V. Magical Drop V is part of a long running puzzle game franchise by Data East. To the rest of you, you probably know of Magical Drop from this animated gif that’s circle around the internet for ages. But Magical Drop is a really fun game, fast paced, and really, really hard. No lie, computer opponents will kick your ass with cleats on. If you wanna try out Magical Drop, it’s available now on Wii’s Virtual Console and PSN.
And now for the slightly sad news. Someone by the name of Matt Donnelley had forwarded an email to IGN stating that Amazon had cancelled his preorder of Dragon’s Crown, stating that the game would “not be released by the supplier on the expected date. As a result, we cancelled them from your order and your credit card wasn’t charged.” Amazon proceeded to delist the game from their catalog. Just to make sure, IGN also checked Gamestop, and the game is no where to be found either. After the story was posted, an illustrator from Vanillaware tweeted that the game was still in development and to wait for an official release announcement. This delisting thing could mean that either something Ignition related might be happening, Vanillaware needs to delay the game a bit, or, like Xenoblade, Vanillaware/Ignition might choose one store to sell their game. For now, we wait.

Nohopeleft.com, a conspiracy website (and viral marketing campaign) tied to the future release of Resident Evil 6 is back up and running today, after it was mysteriously shut down mid February. This is interesting since the only thing left behind when the site was shut down, was a small circular logo and an ominous voice recording.
What could No Hope Left be alluding to? Who are Cousin S, Mother and Uncle? What is this family crisis? Could No Hope Left be a sign of a global bio-terror situation so massive, that there literally is no hope left…? If so, how will our heroes Leon and Chris survive in this new world…?
Post your thoughts and theories in the comments section below.
Resident Evil 6 will be released November 20th 2012.
[UPDATE: 3o second version of ~Action~ now up. View after the break]
Ahoy!
After seeing that Operation Rainfall made their own trailer for Xenoblade, I decided to jump in and create my own videos for it. But instead of a trailer, I decided to make TV commercials! Three 15 second ones to be exact (with a 30 sec one coming soon). You can read up on the process of how these videos were made in the video descriptions on YT. Now I could’ve made another trailer, but I feel that commercials, particularly the ones for videogames, don’t get as much love. Plus fan-made trailers tend to lean dangerously close to AMV territory. Sure they pop up every freaking time on TV and before a video. But when you sit down and look at a commercial (especially the older ones), you sort of begin to appreciate how the video was made and who it was made for. That and how far we’ve gone in the art of advertising.
But enough about that. We’re here about using them. After the break, the other two commercials and what to do.

You knew it was only a matter of time before a game of Adventure Time would be made. I mean, it packed with many references to videogames. But damn did Cartoon Network net themselves one helluva company to do it. Pendleton Ward, creator of Adventure Time, tweeted that a DS game was in the works, and WayForward Technologies was the one doing it. WayForward, for you unfortunate people out there who don’t know the name of the company, are the masterminds behind Might Flip Champs, Mighty Switch Force, Contra 4, A Boy and His Blob on the Wii, Aliens Infestation, and most of all, Shantae. Adventure Time and WayForward are a perfect fit for the two!
Not much else is known about the project, like what genre it is, the release date, or if Pendleton meant 3DS and not DS. But he did show off some animated gifs showing that he’s working closely with WayForward in its development (which you can see after the break).

What happens when SOCOM and Resident Evil make sweet love? You get Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City (ORC).
ORC is a slick, action packed game that gives players a sweet high resolution tour of Raccoon City. This, for all intents and purposes is your standard 3rd person shooter game, set in the Resident Evil universe. This is not canon, this is not what Resident Evil was, or the direction it has been headed in. THIS is simply a nice side story that will tide us fans over until the next release! Want a current, yet true Resident Evil canon game, please pick up Resident Evil Revelations!
In the meantime, is ORC perfect? NO! However, it is a fun romp back in the city that started it all- Raccoon City!
After the break, a full breakdown of my first impressions.
