After about three months of waiting for the SyrianGames website come back, I’ve now returned with even more wacky bootleg boxart, this time from their PS1 catalog. Now, an odd thing occurred after that last article was published. After some gaming outlets posted articles about how crazy their boxarts were, SyrianGames went into a sort of Admin mode where only the site runners could access it. Afterwards, the syriangames.com URL redirected visitors to their Facebook page. This probably meant that 1) they wanted to hide their shame, and 2) they took the site offline.
So how do I have more boxarts to show? Well, for some odd reason several weeks back, their old site was back online. I found this out I checked out my old article (for kicks) and wondered if the site came back. I took the opportunity to look at their PS1 catalog and pick out the funniest ones from the bunch. Good thing I did it too since their URL is once again redirecting to their Facebook page.

One of two outcomes had to happen, and it looks like my gut was right. Atlus has released the original Playstation version of Persona 2 Eternal Punishment on PSN, finally making every Persona game much more possible to collect. Persona 2 Eternal Punishment was released late in the PS1’s lifecycle, and as such became a rather obscure title in the Persona series (and damn expensive as well). It wasn’t until games like Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, and Persona 3 brought the game into the limelight. Another odd thing about this entry was that it was actually the second game in the Persona 2 duality, probably confusing players when events of the first entry, Innocent Sin, would be recounted somewhat. However given the way things end up by the end of Innocent Sin, you’d probably be able to play the game anyway without too much being spoiled. Regardless, players would finally be able to play P2: IS on the PSP many years later.
Eternal Punishment would get the enhanced port treatment Innocent Sin got last year on the PSP. However many wondered if it was going to get localized considering the status of the PSP in the U.S. and the release of the Vita. Two things were going to happen to this game: it gets localized and released, albeit without the sweet packaging Persona 1 and Innocent Sin got, or the PS1 version got released on PSN, costing considerably less than localizing the PSP version. And it looks like they took option two. No word yet if the PSP version will get localized anyway, but it looks like a done deal and this will be the only way we play the game. Besides, at least the original PS1 game’s localization wasn’t as idiotic as the PS1 version of Persona 1.
Ah, I’ve been waiting for this to happen. Back in April, Sega Saturn game Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers was revealed to be remade for the 3DS. The game already came out in Japan the past summer with nary an announcement of a possible NA release. It’s now been confirmed by Atlus that the game will be coming to America some time around Spring.
The game came close to coming here beck when the PS1 version was made. Unfortunately SCEA denied its release, probably due to the Platastion maker’s stance on 2D games at the time.
This week was all about intro themes. We flipped dimensions in Chrono Cross. We retold a tale with Soul Blade. We traveled the wasteland with Wild ARMs 3. We schemed with Ishtar in Ninja Gaiden II. And finally, we got all our items with Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Good news for any Legend of Dragoon fans out there. The classic Sony RPG is now available on PSN. Well, it’s actually been available for a while. I’m a bit late to the party (playing Xenoblade and all). I do remember my time with The Legend of Dragoon. I got quite hooked on the game and almost beat it. What happened? Well, first my gaming ADD acted up (I got a new game). Then my PS1 stopped working. Then my PS2 had trouble reading PS1 games. And I was on the fourth disc. Damn. But hey, I got a PS3, and it does read PS1 games (as ALL PS3s DO.) So maybe I’ll return to this someday. But hey, if you want a bug-free romp through this game and/or you want to finally play this game, it’s up on PSN as a PSOne classic.
And now for some crotch kicking news. The Legend of Dragoon almost had a sequel. Yep, and it was in production, most likely for the PS2. However, no one knew about this until Shu Yoshida talked about it recently. He states that when he left SCEJ, the game was still in production. Why it was cancelled is a mystery. But it could’ve been lack of interest at the time. I mean, yeah, there were fans of the game and yeah the game did well with critics, sales, and gamers. But when you have Final Fantasy X looming around the corner and everyone talking about how awesome the game was going to be, you know your morale’s gonna take a major blow. Yoshida didn’t state how long the game was in production, nor when exactly it was cancelled. But hey, at least this cancellation wasn’t as bad as another one we know.
Now that Mega Man X made a memorable splash on the Playstation (and Saturn), it was time for the X-treme blue bomber to make another. But creator Keiji Inafune wanted this to be the last MMX game before moving into the handheld space for the next step in the series. References are made, a new Maverick naming scheme pops up, more armor is made available, the world is at stake, and a fan favorite meets his grim end (again). After the break, Mega Man X5
Now then, on Christmas Eve morning, we took a look back on the PS1 and my experience getting and owning a PS1. I longed for an N64 for a very long time after playing a lot of it at my cousins’ house. Then come Christmas of 98 I had received a Playstation. You can go to that article to see how I reacted. I briefly mentioned that my first game for it was Blasto. Well, that’s the game we’ll be talking about on this weekend of yet another eve, New Year’s Eve.

In the wake of remakes, reboots, and HD ports that have found their way into this generation, many gamers have made a wishlist of sorts, pertaining to what they want revisited. However, one game that had drawn the most requests has to be Final Fantasy VII. Propelling the PS1, and RPGs, into mainstream popularity, many gamers have heralded Final Fantasy VII as one of best, if not the best, game ever created. Several Final Fantasies, a movie, an anime, and much corporate whoring later, Square shows off the now infamous tech demo for the PS3 in which they recreated the opening scene of Final Fantasy VII. The gaming public loved the hell out of this, but at the same time was upset that this vision of FFVII would be confined to being a mere tech demo. They wanted a full game, something that Square has said time and again that they had no plans for. And now, after the polarizing Final Fantasy XIII and the abysmal Final Fantasy XIV, fans are begging for a remake.
