A Brief Look at the History of The Legend of Heroes

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is coming out this month and what better way to commemorate its arrival than by looking at its very own trail. If you know a little about the Legend of Heroes series, then you might know that Trails in the Sky is a spin-off series. But did you know that it’s actually a spin-off of a spin-off?

Child of Eden Gets Release Date

Upon seeing the trailer to this game last year, my eyes have been begging for more stuff about this game. And now, we finally have a release date. Q? Entertainment’s Tetsuya Mizuguchi has confirmed that the game will come out June 14. As the article from Destructoid points out, it’s only the 360 version. The PS3 version will come out at a later date.

To those not familiar, well, get familiar with it! It seems like the basic gist of it is that it’sa on-rails shooter akin to Sin & Punishment (almost). Seeing from the initial trailer, you use the Kinect (or PS Move) to take aim and fire as on-screen enemies. The story of the game involves Lumi, the character you see portrayed in the videos for Genki Rockets.

Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove Moved to 3DS

Natsume’s handheld rhythm game, Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove, has been moved to the 3DS. Originally planned for the DS, this game boasts a gameplay style similar to Elite Beat Agents. The only major change to this game, besides the potential benefit of having increased resolution, is that the gameplay is on the lower screen and the dancing is on the upper. To get a better idea of what this game is about, check out this video from E3 (when it was still planned for the DS)

Japan Hit By Major Earthquake and Tsunami

I was just play some Persona 4, and suddenly I hear in the other room my pops calling to tell us that Japan has gotten hit by a 8.9 Earthquake. You heard right. 8.9! And, as I’m writing this, the tsunami is already hitting the shoreline. It’s a terrifying sight, as there are actually flames being carried amongst the other objects being carried by the waves. Much of what’s being submerged right now looks like farmland. The center of the quake hit 231 miles away from Tokyo.

Certainly many within the anime and videogame community are concerned. I’m most certainly concerned as well. It may seem odd to mention this. But with many within our circle, when one thinks Japan, you can’t help but think about anime and videogames. Regardless, this is a dark day for Japan.

But without a doubt, no matter who you are, we are all feeling for Japan right now. We at TWF send out thoughts and prayers to the people of Japan affected by the earthquake and the tsunami.

Ubisoft Ordered to Remove We Dare Ads From the Internet

Umm...are we doing something wrong?

We Dare, Ubisoft’s risque title for the Wii, has been the center of controversy ever since its trailer debuted. This was mainly due to the ages 12 and up rating given by Pan Europe Game Information (PEGI), as the trailer suggested gameplay involving provocative actions such as spanking and showed the players of the game undressing. But if all the negative press the game has been getting wasn’t enough, now PEGI wants Ubisoft to pull its advertisement off the internet.

Dissidia 012 Duodecim Gets US Trailer

It’s about time! I got a chance to play the Japanese demo of Dissidia 012 on a friend’s PSP. Everything seems to play the same, aside from the assist characters, which I didn’t know how to summon. Everyone from the previous game is coming back. Joining them is Kain from FFIV, Tifa from FFVII, Laguna from FFVIII, Yuna from FFIX, Yuna from FFX, Prishe from FFXI, Vaan from FFXII, and Lightning from FFXIII. Duodecim Prologus comes out on PSN onMarch 15 (same day as Okamiden ^w^). It’ll come with Aerith as an assist that can be carried over to the main game.

Catherine’s title character voiced by Laura Bailey

My turn for some Catherine news!

Our title character is voiced by a certain Laura Bailey, who has voiced a number of my favorite characters.  Hewpoe from Klonoa and Kaine from Nier are the first to come to mind… but I’m weird.

Oh and she was Oboro from Basilisk, one of the few well dubbed anime I’ve encountered.  I was not extremely hyped for Catherine at first, but now I’m really starting to look forward to it!

Video Game Music w/ the James : VVVVVV

Last year was the first I really spent experimenting with indie games.  Not that I frown at games without a big budget, but there just haven’t been many that captivated me until a great friend of mine sent me a demo for VVVVVV, making the bet that I would buy it afterward.  I thought he was full of shit too until I finished the demo and promptly headed to steam to play what I consider one of the best games of last year, indie or not.

I didn’t have time to fit it in, but the title music is so damn relaxing.

Part of the magic is in the music.  It’s easy to please the retro crowd by composing chiptune tracks on the merit of nostalgia alone, but Souleye managed to put together a collection that sounds refreshing and proves that there is still a lot of directions that chiptune music can expand.

The official soundtrack is also of excellent quality, designed in such a way that you can set a track to loop infinitely, and the transition is seamless unlike others that fade out and offers only a distraction when you want to just lay back and listen to the same thing for hours on end.  I highly recommend getting it if you enjoy the youtube examples to come.

Review: Radiant Historia

Radiant Historia is Atlus’ latest role-playing game for the Nintendo DS. This time traveling adventure about the world’s grim future, a raging war for power, and the journey to set history on its true path, takes from the RPGs of the past and puts a new spin on them. The result is a deeply engaging story with fun and creative gameplay that may prove to stand the test of time.

See Jill And Shuma Gorath in Action

Capcom has just released a pair of trailers for the two DLC characters that will be available for MVC3, Jill and Shuma Gorath. This isn’t the first time that Jill’s been beating the crap out of the Marvel characters, as she made her debut in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, together with Zombies, dogs, and crows (and even Tyrant). But she’ll be shedding all that extra baggage for more acrobatics, taking after her appearance in Resident Evil 5. I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce her S.T.A.R.S. uniform (or RE3 outfit) as an alternate costume for her.

And there’s Shuma Gorath. I don’t know much about him, other than that he’s from the Dr. Strange comics and that I’ve never read those.

Both Shuma and Jill will each cost $5. If you bought the limited edition, they’re free.

Brave Fencer Musashi No-mic streaming on jtv (part 3)

Aloha, James here!

I doubt you caught my Brave Fencer Musashi run parts 1 and 2, which is a bummer — there go a few opportunities to make fun of how much I suck.

Expect me to die a great many times.

I didn’t progress too far into the game thankfully, so there is still plenty of chance to watch and bust my balls about how much I suck. My keyboard will be right next to me, so if you have an account, feel free to chat about the game!  I have no problems pausing a sec to respond XD.

-Update-

Stream done!  Expect chapter 5 and probably 6 next Tuesday since I don’t have a dentist appointment.  Also I’m calling a vote between FB and here, so I’ll fill any reader in :  Taking open votes for my next game stream after Musashi’s finished.  Anything between SNES and Gamecube are eligible.  Give me your worst.

Review in Progress #3 : Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom

Status : 6 hours in (PS3 Version)

This is the first time using my long intended First Taste section, so to introduce it and elaborate on its purpose, many games I play don’t actually get completed for one reason or another. Writing a full review for a game that I’ve only played half of is just plain wrong, which is where the first taste section comes to play. It’s a temporary space where I can write my opinions between points of play without finalizing which will be periodically updated until the time of completion for the final review, if it ever gets to that point. Call it an incomplete review, I plan to have multiple of these going on simultaneously in the near future, and whether or not the Review in Progress becomes a full Review is up to the game in question.

Oh I get it, They're making the same pose...

Part 1 : First Taste

My first impression of Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom : Cheap Zelda knockoff where you have a buddy constantly follow you and you command him to do stuff while together you work to solve puzzles and save the day. Kinda sounds like Star Fox Adventures.

Star Fox Adventures? Wait a second, I used to shit on that game as a kid all the time until I gave it a random second chance last year and fell in love with it! This is awesome!

Get Your Persona 2 Wallpapers

While there’s no news of the PSP version of Persona 2: Innocent Sin coming to the US (yet), we can get a hold of some Persona 2 wallpapers in the mean time. There’s only one right now (it’s the above image), but there is more soon to come.

To those wondering about what this iteration of P2:Innocent Sin is, it’s basically a remake of the entry that appeared back on the PS1. There’s actually two Persona 2 games: Eternal Punishment and Innocent Sin. What we originally got was Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, which is more or less a parallel dimension story. In other words, it’s an alternate retelling of the overarching Persona 2 story. What the PSP is getting is Innocent Sin, the original story of Persona 2. I don’t know much about the story per se, being another one of those people that got into Persona through P3P and P4, but the story sounds good and I’ll be anticipating this entry. To the purists out there, there is an option to switch between the original’s soundtrack and the new one. Here’s the intro scene to give you an idea on what to expect from the new Persona 2.

Review in Progress #2 : Bulletstorm (PS3)

Current Status : Campaign cleared (Very Hard).

Next Update : Covering my Echoes mode and multiplayer experience.

Nothing says good boxart like a foot in the face (if you got the limited edition)

Part I : Bulletstorm at its hardest.

Fucking Ishi, if you block my slide one more time, I’m going to strangle you.

Before anything, I gotta admit, I hate games like Halo and Gears of War when it comes to fps games. Growing up on the old wad based games like Doom, Heretic and Hexen and the early games that used 3d models (Unreal Tournament before the awful sequels and Quake 2/3) along with many of their custom mods and maps, I did not really enjoy the sluggish nature of either game whenever I would gather with some friends to play… Nowadays I just say “No thanks, give me a call if you put on Timesplitters”.

Bulletstorm’s claim to fame is that it is different than every other boring fps on the market today. I didn’t know what to think, coming from People Can Fly and Epic, the company responsible for both Gears of War and Unreal Tournament. Nowadays, I don’t know what the fuck my computer can run when it comes to gaming, and since I have enough modded games to go back to on the PC, I ended up getting the PS3 version of Bulletstorm.
