Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition Trailer

What do you get when you take Pokemon and make every, damn, location Ecruteak City? You get Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition. Nobunaga’s Ambition is a long-time series of strategy RPGs made by Koei that first released in 1983. Each game takes place in Feudal Japan. And now, Tecmo Koei and Gamefreak are teaming up to bring Nobunaga’s and Pokemon together. I will say that putting Pokemon in a strategy RPG is interesting since it’s never been done before for the series. Color me fascinated!

This game is being made for the Nintendo DS and is set for release in Japan in 2012. No U.S. release date is set.

Sonic CD hits PSN tomorrow, new features added

Sonic CD, Sonic’s time traveling adventure to prevent several terrible futures, will be available on the PlayStation Network starting tomorrow. IPhone and Xbox360 owners already have gotten their hands on the title, and now PS3 users can join in on the fun. I mean, who doesn’t want to play the game that introduced Amy Rose, as well as the totally awesome (yet regrettably short lived) super peel-out move?

And not only do we get Sonic CD, even though that would be plenty, we also get new features that weren’t in the original. Now players can choose between the Japanese and American soundtracks, switch between the Sonic CD and Sonic 2 spin dash physics, and, to top it all off, can unlock Tails as a playable character after completing the game.

"Where the hell am I?"

Oh, did I mention that Sonic CD is only going to be $5?

This is going to be a long 24 hours…

Record of Agarest War 2 announced for North America and Europe

Aksys has announced that Record of Agarest War 2 will be arriving to North America and Europe next summer for the PS3. The game will feature a revamped battle system, HD graphics, a free roaming world map, and new Playstation Move minigames.

I’ve just recently gotten into the Agarest series myself, having played through the first generation in Agarest War, but so far I’ve really enjoyed my time with the game and have been secretly hoping we’d see the sequel arrive in the states. Thankfully Aksys knows what we want and plans to deliver.

The new battle system is what has me the most excited about this game. However, I know the fanservice that is associated with the series, and in the trailer above for that matter, may be a turn off for some people, but it really only makes up a small part of the games. I’d recommend doing some research to see that the games consist of more than just suggestive scenes, and now apparently random singing and dancing. But I have to admit, I can’t help but imagine the awkward fun to be had when trying to give your female party members massages with the Move.

The Last Story Gets European Release Date

In the midst of all the celebration of Xenoblade’s U.S. release confirmation, Nintendo has set February 24, 2012 as Europe’s release date for The Last Story. Hironobu Sakaguchi and his company Mistwalker are the makers of this game. The last major games they made were Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, both Xbox 360 releases. The Last Story was release in Japan in late January of this year. No word yet on if The Last Story while join Xenoblade in coming out in the U.S., but I’m assuming Nintendo of America is going to see how this game performs in Europe before taking any action on it.

I Stand On My Soapbox: You Wanted The Game, Now Follow Through

I Stand On My Soapbox is a series of editorials that cover more specific topics in the games industry and community. These articles are a little more extreme than normal editorials published here, and could just degenerate to outright ranting. Have fun and enjoy the show!

Over the weekend, the Wii community, and JRPGs as a whole, have been celebrating the confirmation of Xenoblade finally making it to the U.S. I’ve been listening to the music all weekend and have added some songs to my daily playlist. I’ve seen the trailer a lot, saw some gameplay footage, and watched a couple of early cutscenes in the game. I’m ready to preorder this baby this week (even though I really hate Gamestop, it’s my only choice. And no I have no means to pre-order from Nintendo). But in the back of my mind, I fear that this game may not sell well in the U.S. But this time, it cannot happen. It mustn’t happen! Continue reading

Xenoblade U.S. Trailer and new Title Design

Not too long after the reveal of Xenoblade coming to the U.S., a new trailer was posted. The trailer reveals that the U.S. release will be based on the PAL version, meaning that there will be British voices a-plenty. One thing that has been changed is the title design, which now has “Chronicles” in smaller font and under a line (ignore the IGN thumbnail). I actually like this new design as it’s less busy than the PAL version and downplays the “Chronicles” part of the title (something that many gamers saw as an unnecessary subtitle). You’ll also notice many of the songs that are in the game that are really stunning. I’ve been listening to some of the music all weekend, and it’s really good! Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story) and Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono series, Soma Bringer) are the composers for this game, so you know this is going to be an amazing soundtrack. Xenoblade is set for release in April 2012.

Xenoblade Confirmed For U.S. Release!

Well guys, it finally happened. Xenoblade will finally be hitting the U.S. next year under the title Xenoblade Chronicles. This comes to us via a report from IGN in which an image from an anonymous Gamestop employee was shown to have Xenoblade in the release schedule. Soon afterward, images of Xenoblade Chronicles popped up on on Nintendo’s Facebook page. At 10:10AM PST, Nintendo posted on their Facebook page:

“It’s confirmed! Next year, Wii players throughout North America can wield the Monado blade and join the epic battle between the Homs and the Mechons in Xenoblade Chronicles. Like this post if you’re ready for an adventure on the surface of two frozen Titans!”

There are some out there that may feel a little manipulated out there after begging, pleading, and potentially boycotting all Nintendo products, and they have a right to be a little disappointed that Nintendo would dangle the carrot in front of gamers like that. But I think it’s time to put the pride aside and just be happy that we’re getting the damned game. The critically acclaimed game is set for release in April 2012.

Say Hello to Nyu Media, Your Newest Niche-Game Publisher [UPDATE]

In a world full of Battlefields, Call of Dutys, and Skyrims, it’s nice to play something out of the ordinary (and a helluva lot more colorful). So far, there’s primarily Atlus, NIS America, XSEED, and Ignition that cater to the niche market by bringing over Japanese games that the big guys are too scared to publish in the U.S. Well now you can add Nyu Media to the mix. They’ll be specializing in bringing doujin games over. “The high price of imports, limited distribution, and the language barrier have prevented gamers from fully enjoying many quality doujin games,” says founder Seon King on the company’s new page in regard to how hard it is to acquire these games and support the often small dev teams. So far they have six games they’ll be publishing this year, with more on the way in 2012. The gaame will be available on PC through regular distribution platforms. No word yet on if they’ll be publishing the games as downloadables on consoles and/or handhelds. You can hit up the company’s website to see what they’ll be bringing over.

[UPDATE] I’ve contacted Seon King, and he said that they’re in talks to release these games on online platforms like Steam. On the handheld/console front, they’ll also be release games on smartphone devices. There are currently no plans to release these games on PSN or XBLA (Understandably so since these services can have some steep hosting fees).

Spain to Capcom: “Que Carajo Estas Haciendo Aqui!?”

Man, no one’s a fan of Capcom lately. Just when you thought Capcom couldn’t piss off Spain again, Capcom reveals that they’ll be dressing Magneto in the King of Spain’s royal clothes. Now, this probably isn’t all Capcom’s fault. Magneto wearing the outfit in question is actually a throwback to the comic House of M in which Magneto is seen wearing said outfit. The Spanish Royal Family had issue with the depiction of their King’s garb and sued Marvel. They’ve settled this a long time ago. Guess no one gave Capcom the memo to not open those old wounds, as now Spain is going down on Capcom for using the outfit as DLC for Magneto and is threatening legal action. It’s currently available on PSN and XBL, so get it while it’s hot!

P4U: Aigis No Longer Alone – Mitsuru and Akihiko Join The Fray [UPDATE]

Atlus you cheeky bastards, leading us to assume that Aigis was the only P3 representative in that fighting game you’re making with ArcSys. Shame on you! But I digress, Atlus has revealed recently that Mitsuru Kirijo and Akihiko Sanada from Persona 3 will be playable characters in Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena. Since this takes place some time after Persona 4, you already know these two aged when you consider when P3 took place. Akihiko has now lost his shirt and is sporting a huge scar across his chest (that looks like it came from a bear). Mitsuru now looks like a spy for the KGB and is now wearing a fur coat, and hot damn am I okay with that! They’ll be sporting their ultimate Personas, Ceasar and Artemesia respectively. The official website has been updated to show these characters. Screens after the break. Now if you excuse me… Continue reading

Ono: There will be no Super Street Fighter X Tekken Turbo

In an interview with Gematsu (via Gamepro), Street Fighter X Tekken producer Yoshinori Ono was asked if there would be any extra versions of this game. Ono responded by stating that if there’s to be any extra versions of the game, it would be handled similarly to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition instead of Super Street Fighter IV and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. In other words, it’ll be done as a downloadable update for those who already have the game (and probably retail for those who don’t have it yet).

To put simply, you will risk being a sucker… again.

Naoto and Teddy Ready to Kick Ass in P4: The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena

Big blogs, I am disappoint. How could you talk about Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim and not talk about this!? This is big news here! Naoto and Teddy have been revealed as playable characters in Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, a fighting game being done by Atlus and Arc System Works (of BlazBlue and Guilty Gear fame). They’ve actually been revealed for some weeks already, but not a lot of blogs seem to be mentioning it. I guess it’s somewhat of a forgone conclusion that the P4 crew would be playable, but it doesn’t hurt to let the public know anyway. You can check the official website to see Naoto and Teddy (though the info is in Japanese). They’ve also added Twitter icons for any Twitters users out there to use. And for you wallpaper fanatics, they’ve got a wallpaper available a well. You can find those in the Special menu in the bottom. Teddy after the jump.

[NYCC] Hands-On With Zelda: Skyward Sword (2 Parts)

Several weeks ago at New York Comic-Con, The crew tried their hands at Nintendo’s latest entry in the Zelda series, Skyward Sword. Suikoinfinity and our buddy Osjua tried their hand at the Bird Race and Boss Battle demo, while Steven “DPX” tried the Dungeon demo the following day (with commentary help from Allison B., who we met at the Con). Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Phoenix Wright Trailer

For real this time. For a while I was wondering if Phoenix was really going to throw some punches and kicks. Turns out, he’s not quite doing much of that. Instead, he’s whipping out paper, throwing what looks like laser pens, calling out his assistant to do the Luigi Punches. I’m really diggin’ his level 1 Super though, calling out the Judge like a god! So far his fighting style is very different than the other fighters. He also has some icons over his super meter. Evidence perhaps? Hachi is definitely gonna love this!

Hachi76, Prota and Suikoinfinity of The Wired Fish are Going to New York Comic Con!

The Wired Fish: Finally the first thing to show up when you Google our Goddamn name!

Hello to all 30 The Wired Fish fans out there! This is Hachi with some good news: a few of us are going to Comic Con! Yes, your 3,897th favorite internet personalities will be attending New York Comic Con, at the Jacob Javits Center from October 14th-16th. Now, of course, we won’t be having a panel or anything (we’re not that popular…yet), but we will be wandering the Con floor. Prota and Suiko will likely be around the games most of the time, meanwhile I will be bumping around everywhere; games, anime, sales floor, you name it. Luckily, I’m also the most distinctive looking, and will be wearing my signature hat all three days.

What's sexier than a straw fedora? One with a little Hachi under it, that's what!

As for site news, me and Prota will be demoing any fun games we can find (especially Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Phoenix Wright all fucking day) so look out for the first installment of “Prota and Hachi do NYCC” (name subject to change to something less retarded) in the weeks after the con.

We don’t expect you to seek us out, of course, but if you happen to spot us, don’t be afraid to come over and say hi. It’ll boost our egos (and God knows, as a little hole in the wall site, we need it), we’ll probably exchange witty banter, and you can say you met a guy who writes on that one site you visited on the internet that one time! Everybody wins!

See you all there!
