SFxT: With Glitches Like These, There’s Bound To Be A Super Version

Oh Capcom. Just when I thought you turned over a new leaf, this happens. There’s been some growing ire in the Capcom community over the company’s handling of Street Fighter X Tekken. Along with On-Disc DLC and advertised features not being included, Capcom rolled out a few patches to fix some bugs and tweak a few mechanics. Usually when patches go out, a few more are discovered or create new problems. But this, this is one major problem. When players update SFxT to Version 1.04 and play as Rolento, using his knife to block a projectile results in the game completely freezing up. There’s no way to get out of this either, so you have to power off the console. Not sure if you can quit the game from each console’s respective home buttons.

I remember during the On-Disc DLC debacle where Cristian Svenson stated that they put the DLC on the disc to ensure compatibility and to prevent having to make a Super Version of the game. Well, I think he, and the rest of the company, forgot that character compatibility isn’t the only reason a Super Version is made. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had no choice but to make a Super Street Fighter X Tekken, or some Game of the Year Complete edition. As a matter of fact, I can bet you that they will make it and announce it close to E3.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment [PSP] Intro

Now that the PSP version of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment has released (or is close to release) in Japan, It’s time to see the intro to it. Right away I noticed that the music is more reminiscent of the older versions of the P2 games rather than making a new song for the Innocent Sin entry of the game. The intro is done by MadHouse, the same guys doing the anime for Persona 4: The Animation. Still no word on if we’re getting this version here in the states. If we are, they better do it soon ’cause the PSP’s on its last legs. I mean, that didn’t stop them from releasing P4 late in the PS2’s lifecycle, but the state of the PSP here is worse.

Night-Time Listenings Wrap-Up: Week Of 5/14/12

“Great Scott, he finally did one song per day!” Yep, I managed to stay up ’til ten. I do kinda wish Facebook had a schedule system where I could write up something and schedule it to post on its own at certain time (like we have here). Anyway, this week on Night-Time Listening, we kicked off with a bit of Machinae Supremacy and their song Death From Above from Jets N Guns. Then we listened to a fine remix of Lockjaw’s Saga from Vincent Rubinetti. Afterwards was chiptune artist Fighter X and his song R07. We went a little obscure oldschool with the Main Board Theme from Jaki Crush. And finally, we ended the week with some Chrome Gadget from Sonic 3.

Remember to like our Facebook page to get updates from TWF, and to see the music posted without waiting for these wrap-ups. Again credit goes to the fine people of The Spriters Resource (SkyLights specifically) for the background to Chrome Gadget.

Monolithsoft developing Project X Zone, Die Hard Arcade Represented (Along With Others)

Shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise considering that Monolithsoft, the developers of Xenoblade, were also the developers of Namco X Capcom. Famitsu also divulged some info on some of the battle systems in place for Project X Zone. Like its predecessor, battles are a mix of Strategy RPG and action. You move units around on a grid and engage enemies. Here, the battles then switch to a 2D perspective where you use the control pad and “A” Button to execute moves. You’re encouraged to use different abilities and use them all in one shot. You build up a meter at the bottom to unleash special moves. It’s shared amongst all party members, so use it wisely.

Along with this news, more characters have been revealed for Project X Zone. First on the Capcom side, Morrigan has been added to the Darkstalkers team. Chun-Li joins Ryu and Ken for the Street Fighter team. On The SEGA side, Erika and Gemini join the Sakura Wars team. This makes it the biggest team so far. And holy crap, is that John McClane from Die Hard Arcade!? Well kinda. In Japan (where it was made and first came out), it was called Dynamite Deka, and the guy was named Bruno. You can read up on that here. Finally on the Namco Bandai side, the Valkyrie from The Adventures of the Valkyrie joins alone. And finally Haken and Kaguya from Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endeless Frontier join the fray.

Project X Zone is slated for release on the 3DS some time this year. Character art after the break.

You’ve Seen The Gaming Setup. Now See It In Motion

Remember this image that was posted on Reddit? Well, youtuber 16bitghost (real name Pete) caught wind of this and has made a video of it on his youtube channel (which you can see above). This all started after the blog pseudo-macro posted an article detailing Pete’s videogame collection. Someone on Reddit posted the image, and well, here we are. If only my setup was this epic. While my shelf carries all the games I own across generations, it can only hold, at most, 3 consoles. The Wii and PS2 are here, with the PS3 still in the living room. That PS3 will come back eventually. The 360 in the house is reina_rei’s.

Is There A New Star Fox Game Coming Out? Ask Platinum Games.

The man behind Kid Icarus Uprising and the Smash Bros. series was caught entering Platinum Games offices not too long ago. No one knows for certain what exactly he was doing in there. All he did do was share a picture of Platinum Games’ sign. Noting out of the ordinary. But why am I bringing up Star Fox? Well back in 2010, Platinum’s Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Bayonetta, said in a twitter post that he wanted “someone from Nintendo to come to Platinum, point a gun and say, ‘You people make the the new Star Fox game.'” Kamiya is still as Platinum, and Sakurai is from Nintendo. Nothing has come of this, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Maybe E3 perhaps?

Did A Wii Virtual Console Game Release With Online Play? Yes, Yes It Did.

The game? Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers for the SEGA Genesis. Wow. Y’know, I gotta give props to Capcom for this. They managed to do something that not even Nintendo thought of doing with their own games. Since the start of the Wii’s Virtual Console service, many had hoped that many of those old classics would have online multiplayer; Super Mario Bros., Joe & Mac, F-ZERO X, Bubble Bobble, Secret of Mana, and many other games with great multiplayer. But the games released would just be straight ports with no new bells and whistles added. But Capcom sought to fix this and added online multiplayer for the Genesis version Super Street Fighter II:The New Challengers. Makes a bit of sense though since the original had XBAND support. Unfortunately they may not be able to add it for the SNES version since they’ve long since released it. It may not mean much since the Wii’s life is close to the end. But hopefully sends a message to Nintendo and other companies that it’d be awesome for these old games to have online multiplayer. If Nintendo continues VC service on the 3DS and resumes the line on the Wii U, this feature would be more than a welcome addition.

So big ups Capcom, big ups.

Night-Time Listenings Wrap-Up: Week of 5/7/12

Another week, and another round of music. There are finally five entries in this round-up. But there were almost four again due to me falling asleep early on one of the days. But I made up for it by posting two songs for a single night. This week we listened to Shinshou from BlazBlue Continuum Shift II, Mission Act 2 and Seaside Hill (classic) from Sonic Generations, Bosque from Lords of Thunder, and Teknopathic (Pop N Disco 80s Mix) from Ollie King. Remember to Like our Facebook page to get updated on the music without waiting for the weekend.

Retro Weekends – Whomp ‘Em

The Native American. A people that have long been the center of government screwing. But in entertainment, they’ve been seen as those guys in Westerns that always seemed to mess up the good guys. But sometimes, the helped out. Other times, the were sidekicks. Native Americans in videogames? Well, they… well, one, was fodder for being raped in front of a cactus by a dead cowboy dodging arrows. Yeah, Natives weren’t quite painted in a positive light. But hey, there was one game that would try and fix that a bit. Whomp ‘Em is the next game in NES MAY after the jump.

Robot Unicorn Attack Evolution Now On Adult Swim Games… With A Few Changes

Back in February, Adult Swim released Robot Unicorn Attack Evolution, sporting artwork by robotpencil. At the time, it was only available on Facebook. Now AS has finally release the game on their own site and changed a few things around. First thing you’ll notice is that there are no power-ups like on the Facebook version. Second is that now you won’t revert back to the Unicorn if you miss a star as the other creatures. And third is that they added a Rhino to the mix. Not sure if they moved the Sabretooth Tiger down or replaced it. One thing that still stands is that you have to hit three stars in a row to evolve. Miss one and the star count resets. The game is still as awesome as ever. Now if only they fixed that evolving in mid-air thing…

Want Shenmue III? Sonic All-Stars Dev Wants To See It On Kickstarter

For almost a decade fans have wanted to see a third entry in the Shenmue series. Time and again SEGA has failed to get the the project off the ground. And with SEGA suffering some pretty bad financial difficulties and playing it extra safe with their releases, the chances of a Shenmue game coming out is as good as dead. But one developer wants to see it come back. Steve Lycett, the executive producer currently working on Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed says that he wants to see Shenmue III on Kickstarter and wonders why “Yu Suzuki doesn’t put Shenmue 3 on Kickstarter. That would be a very interesting thing to watch.” He goes on to state that the idea of crowdfunding virtually takes the publisher out of the equation of what gets greenlighted. I mean, ultimately it’s still up to the publisher to give a project a go, but money talks louder than a well-put-together pitch.

Or, maybe a publisher may not be needed. Yu Suzuki mentioned earlier this year that he could possibly get a license from SEGA and make a new Shenmue game. As publishing goes, when you make a property under a publisher, it belongs to the publisher. If the creator (a person or a developer) leaves, it still belong to the publisher and they can still make games using the property. Currently Yu Suzuki doesn’t work with SEGA and is working for YsNet, so it’s out his hands to make a new Shenmue game unless he gets a license on his own work. Hey, maybe SEGA should give him one. Form the looks of it, SEGA doesn’t want to take anymore risks while Suzuki is more than willing to make them. Fans get what they want, and SEGA won’t be fully liable if the project backfires, all while still collecting licensing fees. It’s a win-win.

Red Faction II Rated By ESRB, Might Come Out For PS3

Ah, looks like the ESRB has ruined the surprise for THQ and Volition. The ESRB has rated Red Faction II and looks like it’s slated for release on the PS3. Not much else is known as to what kind of release this geo-modding first person will be. Is it going to be a PS2 classic, or a remastered HD Port. This leak comes off the heels of THQ reporting improved financial earnings thanks to Saints Row: The Third. So maybe THQ might be a little more confident right now to do things with the Red Faction series after the sales stinker that was Red Faction: Armageddon.

Two G4 Mainstays Leaving The Network: Sessler, And Now Pereira

Something’s a-brewing over at G4, and man it ain’t pretty. While you can see just how bad things were getting just by looking at the programming line-up of G4, you just had to feel bad for the only shows left that showed an ounce of G4’s original intent. And then two weeks ago, long-time X-Play host and game content head honcho Adam Sessler announced that he was leaving the network, citing a contract dispute. An obvious sign that Sessler had enough of G4’s bullshit and corporate mismanagement. It became clear that looking at what G4 has become, the network wasn’t for him anymore, and now he’s finally called it quits.

And now two weeks later, Kevin Pereira, long-time co-host of Attack of the Show, is leaving the network as well. Pereira was one of the more hated personalities from G4 fans, largely for his douchiness and overly dry (lack of) humor. Regardless, he was one of the faces of G4 and looked to still fit in with G4’s changing image. And now he’s leaving too? Oh yeah, something’s definitely wrong over at G4. Pereira had taken to his personal blog to address the concerns fans are having over his departure. However, unlike Sessler, he doesn’t state why he’s leaving.

To some, the last veteran left on the network is Morgan Webb. I can’t help but feel like her departure won’t be too far off either.

U.S. Copies of Xenoblade Outsell Japan’s Total Lifetime Sales[EDIT]

Well it’s already been a month since Xenoblade went on sale in the U.S. So far I’ve been thoroughly impressed with this game with each gaming session unintentionally becoming a marathon session. But how has Xenoblade done in terms of sales? According to VGChartz* the game has sold a total of 220,503 copies in the U.S. Compare that to Japan’s totals sales of 159,000 copies sold, and Europe’s 176,000 copies sold, and you’ll see that the U.S. was the biggest contributor to the total sales of the game. Keep in mind, Nintendo did next to no advertising for the game, producing one trailer (that they sent to publications twice for some odd reason), making a crappy internet banner ad, and made the game a retailer exclusive. A whole lot of super-safe steps were made by NoA to make sure next to no money was spent in advertising this game. It was up to the fans to spread the word. Operational Rainfall was the primary hub for this, with others joining in to help out in spreading the word (myself included). Not only that, it was up against Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2, and Nintendo’s own Mario Party 9 (which sells freakishly high numbers). And look, the game sold better than anyone expected considering the circumstances. All territories combined, Xenoblade has sold a grand total of 623,000 copies. Good job people!

Now if only there was a cake to celebrate this occasion.

*VGChartz uses speculative data for its sales numbers. [Edit] Unfortunately, VG Chartz is the only one reporting this since NPD won’t list Xenoblade due to its retail exclusivity. So Neogaf users, quote us with caution.

BBFC Leakes Zone of The Enders HD Collection And Release Date

Fans have been begging for this Kojima classic to make a comeback either with a sequel or an HD port. It looks like their wishes are being granted as the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has rated the game, unintentionally making its existence known to the public. They rated the game 12+ and say that it will come out in the UK on September 1 of this year.

In Zone of the Enders, you piloted a mech across a stage, fighting enemy robots along the way. My only experience with the game was through a demo for the PS2. Unlike other mech games, you had complete control over how you mech flew around. You could shoot at enemies from afar, or come in close for a devastating sword swipe. Besides its unique controls, the game was also known for coming with a demo of the hotly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2. While most people probably bought the game for that demo, it did make fans for Zone of the Enders. Here’s hoping this HD collection doesn’t suffer the same fate of another collection Konami made recently.
