E3 2012 Nintendo 3DS Press Conference

It’s not over yet. Nintendo announced during their initial presentation that since there wouldn’t be enough time to show plans for both the Wii U and 3DS, there will be a separate presentation for the Nintendo 3DS at E3. And so, here we are again for one more Liveblog on the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo showed a little bit of what was in store for the 3Ds at the initial press conference, be this one coming up will be the real deal.

Liveblog and Press Conference start at 9PM EDT.

E3: Project P-100 Trailer

Project P-100 seems to be what happens when Platinum Games meets Pikmin! The company’s title in progress has players rounding up civilians and turning them into…well, pretty much anything they need in order to defeat the giant robots invading town. From the gameplay above, we can see citizens being used as fists, guns, and swords in order to combat the invaders. But they also play an important role in navigating levels, as we see them turning into climbable ladders, hands that can pull and push objects, and even planes you can fly with. On top of that, there appears to be four player co-op added into the mix!

This definitely looks like a game to watch out for, which makes it all the more odd that this wasn’t shown during Nintendo’s E3 press conference. If Nintendo was willing to show off more games like these, rather than games that we already know about, I think their conference would have had a much warmer reception.

E3: Persona 4 Arena Trailer

Update: An official release date has been confirmed. Persona 4 Arena will be arriving in North America on August 7th and will feature both the original Japanese voice track as well as the new English voice-work.

Here’s a new trailer for Persona 4 Arena with more gameplay, one very hyper announcer, and a tease of the Midnight Channel’s return. Persona 4 Arena is still slated for release this summer and I believe many Persona and fighting fans alike have this game on their radar. I know several of us at The Wired Fish do.

E3 2012 Sony Press Conference Liveblog

Last year, Sony had to deal with the biggest security hacks in U.S. history. With that event long behind them, it’s time to look at the future. The Ps3 is still performing strong. But their Playstation Vita handheld is not quite performing as well as Sony predicted. Some weeks ago, we saw Sony reveal Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, which sparked what may be the most heated debate in recent gaming memory. Now there are rumors that Sony would reveal the PS4, codenamed Orbis (with rumors that it too would block used games). What does Sony have planned for their wacky world of Playstation?

E3 2012 Microsoft Press Conference Liveblog

Ahoy and welcome one and all to the Microsoft Press Conference Liveblog. Last year Microsoft showed off more things to do with the Kinect and surprised the world with the reveal of Halo 4. They’ve showed off the new features that would be coming to Xbox 360. As the days got closer, the rumors were running rampant with some saying that Microsoft would show off a new console (and block used games). Today is judgement day. All the rumors will be cleared and the future of Microsoft will be revealed.

Metal Gear Rising Title Screen Revealed For E3 Demo

Regardless of what many die-hard fans are saying about Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, we’re really excited for this game and what Platinum Games has planned for Raiden. Metal Gear Rising nixes stealth in favor of fast-paced, adrenaline pumping action that Platinum Games is known for. A perfect fit for the antics that Raiden performed in MGS4: Guns of the Patriots. Konami has revealed the Title Screen that’ll greet players that play the demo at E3 2012. It really reminds me of title screens like Mortal Kombat 9 and God of War, with the character looking at the player or breathing, and then moving when making a selection. Of course Raiden is just standing there, but he is shot from many dynamic angles. We expressed how we felt about the game in the first episode of The Wired Fish Podcast Season 2.

Anarchy Reigns Delayed In U.S. and Europe, SEGA Looks For Better Time To Release It

Things just keep getting weirder and weirder as SEGA has announced that Anarchy Reigns is being delayed in the U.S. and Europe. Thing is, the game is done. A rep from Platinum states that the game “…is fully localized. If you buy the Japanese version or any version, it’s going to have all the languages in it.” So what’s the hold up? Well, it’s timing as SEGA wants to release the game at a better time where it’ll be more likely to be bought and played. Since this is a online centric game, the timing is important. But why delay it out of summer, where the target range is most likely on break from college or work? I’d say now’s the best time to do it, especially since summer is pretty much the “game release drought” season. SEGA could have Summer all to itself. Hopefully this business realignment isn’t toying around with their strategic metality, ’cause it’s looking all sorts of funky.

Would You Pay $375 For Super Mario Land 2?

Answer: No. But a woman in Vancouver selling the game on Craigslist believes you should. Super Mario Land 2 was originally released on the Game Boy on November 2, 1992, and re-released on the 3DS Virtual Console on September 29, 2011. Being that this was the sequel to the highly praised 18-million seller Super Mario Land, people snatched up the sequel in no time, selling 12 million units since launch. I mean, this was Mario on-the-go. Who didn’t want this back then? The unnamed woman claims that the game is rare and that it justifies the $375 price point. She also cites that she saw vendors on Amazon selling the game for that much. What she failed to notice is that Amazon sellers however tend to sell things at ultra inflated prices, like the Wii Lens Cleaners going for upwards of $30 when Nintendo themselves sold it for $10.  After a couple of Youtubers found out about this, she lowered the price to $250, which is still way too high for the game. And this is just the cartridge she’s selling. No box, no manual, no extra paper that Nintendo tends to put in their boxes. Just the cart. If this game was rare, 1)It would not have sold so many when it was released, and 2)Nintendo would’ve had limited production run of the game (which it certainly wouldn’t do for a Mario game). Atlus games are rare. Nintendo games – especially Mario games – are not.

Night-Time Listenings Wrap-Up: Week of 5/21/12

Recognize that image up there? If not, well, you’ll see after the break. So then, you already know my problems with staying awake around 10PM sometimes, so I won’t be going over that again. But that game me a chance to pick two songs that night. Songs from a game tied to a team of multicolored super heroes.

Retro Weekends – Bubble Bobble

In prehistoric times, there were dinosaurs that blew bubbles at toy robots… at least, this is what Taito wanted you to believe. The dinosaurs Bub and Bob became the mascots for Taito, and this was the game that started it all. Combining puzzle elements and action gameplay, Bubble Bobble made its rounds across many platforms and charmed audiences with its bright colors and steady challenge. This weekend, NES MAY gets caught in a bubble. Continue reading

Persona 4: The Golden’s Swanky Opening

Man, look at MC’s dance moves! Straight swag all over the place. I will admit, this opening is very weird, especially when you compare it to the opening of the original Persona 4 and Persona 3 Portable. But man that song is so damn awesome! Carefree and smooth. Love hearing a song like this in a game. I gotta admit everyone looks like they went to the suburban school of dance. Regardless, I really like the kaleidoscope theme these guys were going for. Bravo to Atlus for another awesome opening.

Persona 4: The Golden is expected to release this October in the U.S. for the Playstation Vita.

Zone of the Enders sequel in the works, HD collection dated for Japan

Today, during the Zone of the Enders HD ReBOOT event in Tokyo, Hideo Kojima shed some light on the Japanese release date for the Zone of the Enders HD collection. It will be invading Japan October 25th, but there’s no news on the release dates for other regions yet. However, the big piece of information that surfaced from the event was that a sequel to the franchise is currently in the works. All we know at this time is that the title is codenamed “Enders Project”, the game is in an early prototyping stage, and that the staff is testing what it can do with the Fox Engine. Kojima mentioned that one of the things they’ve been able to do so far is convert physical models, such as the one below, into three dimensional ones.

How will this new, more organic, look for Orbital Frames fit into the plot?

As a big Zone of the Enders fan, this is a dream come true. It’s been over nine years since the previous installment made it to the states, and a sequel has been far overdue. Plus, I really think Kojima could use a break from the Metal Gear Solid series and revisit some of his other works, or even start working on a new IP. Either way, I’m just stoked this is actually happening.
