Project X Zone Site Updated, Has Music, Hints At Resonance of Fate and Viewtiful Joe

Last week Capcom, Namco, and Sega revealed Project X Zone, the sequel to Namco X Capcom that now adds Sega into the mix. I briefly mentioned in the reveal article that the site was still barren, only showing just the logo. Well, the site got a rather significant update. The first thing you’ll notice is the music. I will say it sounds pretty cool. Doesn’t sound tied to any one company; could be the theme song for the game, like for the intro. Then you’ll see a panorama behind the logo. Almost immediately you’ll notice Les Chattes Noires, which was a location in Sega’s Resonance of Fate. Looking in the background, that large tower looks suspiciously like the Tower of Basel from Resonance of Fate as well. If you look below it Les Chattes Noire, you’ll see a place called MovieLand, which was the world Joe would go to become Viewtiful Joe in Capcom’s… err, Viewtiful Jow. There are a few more things that might suggest something, particularly that ornate area to the far left, or the three movie posters above MovieLand

Looking at how these locales are arranged, maybe this is how the player will interact with the different game worlds, like Kingdom Hearts and the Disney Worlds, or like Smash Bros Brawl and those world orbs Tabuu seizes. Or maybe their worlds have clashed and are being melded into one. And so, the plot thickens…

Project X Zone Characters and Screenshots.

Not too long after the reveal, Famitsu released character art and screenshots for Capcom/Namco/Sega collaboration Project X Zone. The game is a strategy RPG much like its predecessor, Namco X Capcom. That character roster might seem paltry now, but of Namco X Capcom is anything to go by, this is is going to grow by a huge margin. So far not exact date is set, but the trio’s aiming for a late 2012 release. Characters and art after the jump.

New 2D Sidescroller Mario In The Works, Might Have DLC Stages

During an investor meeting, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata mentioned that a new Super Mario games was in development, this time being in 2D like the DS and Wii New Super Mario Bros. He also touched upon the possibility of Super Mario being a good place to add DLC stages. Obviously pricing hasn’t been talked about yet, nor how many stages would be available per pop. Hopefully these’ll be new stages and not stuff already on the cart. Iwata hopes to release the game in the next fiscal year.

Here’s hoping for some asshole-level difficult stages. One of the primary reasons why I liked NSMBWii, Mario Galaxy 2, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Bring it on Nintendo!

[NYCC] Sonic Generations 3DS Hands-On Preview

Before trying out the console version of Sonic Generations on Sunday, James tried out the 3DS version last Friday as New York Comic Con. The demo contain Sonic & Knuckles’ Mushroom Hill and Big Hand boss.

[NYCC] Shinobi Hands-On Preview

Witness Hachi try out the new Shinobi game coming out for the 3DS. From the looks of it, this game is going to live up to the ninja game= hard as hell trope, complete with precise mechanics, tough patterns, and background enemy tomfoolery. Also, listen as Steven “DPX” makes an ass of himself explaining this and be on the lookout for Prota’s random sniffing of Hachi.

[NYCC] Super-Mario 3D Land Hands-On 3-Part Preview

Mario finally makes his debut on the 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land. Suikoinfinity and Prota play the four stages of the demo. Part 1 is up there. Hit the break for part 2 and part 3.

[NYCC] Mario Kart 7 Hands-On Preview

Here’s Steven “DPX” trying out Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS. Unfortunately, it looks like our camera girl kinda borked the recording as it seems like she thought she was recording, when in fact she wasn’t. The demo was 3 races long. All that was recorded here was the last lap of the last race.

[NYCC] Pokemon Rumble Blast Hands-On Preview

Here comes the first wave of videos we’ve done over the weekend at New York Comic-Con. Many laughs, many woahs, and many hurt feet were had at the convention. But all was good. Here’s Suikoinfinity trying out Pokemon Rumble Blast.

Nintendo Announces 3DS Peripheral, Hachi’s Eyes Gleam With Interest…

Secret Scoop! Turn your 3DS into a food court tray! Coming soon!

Source: IGN

Being a relatively recent adopter of the 3DS (about a month now), I have become well acquainted with the system’s strengths and weaknesses. It has great graphical capabilities, fits pleasingly in the hands, has immense potential for future enjoyment (I’ve said as much in our podcasts) and genuinely feels like a “next-gen handheld”. On the other hand, it runs out of power at a moments notice, is currently bereft of many “Triple-A” games (although that is changing rapidly) and has finicky 3D that, although awesome when it works, will boil your viscous fluid inside your eyeballs if you hold it wrong. Sonic Generations Trailer Shows More Stages, More Tails, + Mushroom Hill on 3DS

Here’s another new trailer for Sonic Generations, fresh off GamesCon in Germany. It shows of the usual stuff we’ve seen so far for this game. But it we see a new stage being shown off. From what it looks like, it’s the stage from Sonic 2006. Or it could be that stage from Sonic Unleashed. Not too sure as I try to stay the hell away from these games as much as I can. On the bright side of things, Tails shows up at the very end of the trailer. Not sure if there will be any two-player support akin to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but his appearance could spell constant death sounds behind you.

If you want to see some Mushroom Hill action on the 3DS, jump in.

Megaman Legends 3 Has Been Cancelled

Megaman Death Sound

You hear that sound when Megaman dies. That’s not Megaman dying. That’s Capcom, becoming a former shadow of itself, becoming a company different than what I grew up with. That sound is the many visions of my childhood, growing up with Capcom, vanishing. This is not the same Capcom anymore. That company that made all those games back then… Megaman, Megaman X, Ghosts n Goblins, DuckTales, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons, Zelda: The Minish Cap, Marvel vs. Capcom, Devil May Cry… and Megaman Legends, one of the games that defined my childhood… This is not the same company.

This is not Capcom. This is Capcom Co., Ltd., a corporation with an air of arrogance and a belief that it knows better than thou. A company reaping the benefits of cheap, western outsourcing, only two fighting games in the market, and rip-off after rip-off (on-disc) dlc. There is no more Unity, as they proclaim. We are not fans to them. We are just customers now. We are not defined by our heads, our arms, our thumbs, our legs… no. We are defined by our wallets, like massive breasts in an office. That is all they want now. Well Capcom, enjoy this new world you made for yourself, this gray, dreary world. I’ll stay on this side, where I can still enjoy the old games you made.

I could do my usual journalistic breakdown of what happened and the reasons behind. But I’ll let Destructoid handle it. To me, this goes far deeper into what makes me a gamer.

Nintendo Press Conference (Starts at 12PM)

Nintendo had a pretty good year last year. Probably one of their best for their Wii and DS. And now, the 3DS is out in the wild. So far, the 3DS launch wasn’t really making the handheld fly off the shelves, and the launch lineup wasn’t really something to write home about. But there are still games to be released on the system in the coming months. With Wii sales slowly starting to fade away, we really know almost nothing for what the future holds for the Wii. Maybe Nintendo will announce that those Japanese (and European, in Xenoblade’s case) exclusives are coming to the US? And what of Project Cafe? What exactly is this thing? Well, stay tuned.

Nintendo’s Press Conference begins at 12PM EST (9AM PST). Once the conference is underway, click the link below to launch the liveblog.

BIT.TRIP SAGA Coming to 3DS

That’s all six games, Beat, Core, Void, Runner, Fate, and Flux, coming to the 3DS, in one cartridge. Aksys Games has also stated that the game will also have Stereoscopic 3D. No word yet on how some of the games will function (Some are no-brainers, others like Flux make me wonder). So for those who always wanted to play the games but didn’t have a chance (or you’re too rightfully scared to buy them off WiiWare), now you can play all six games on the go. Aksys has no release date yet, but I’m guessing we’ll be getting it this year.

Also, now I get the meaning of that 3D Commander Video picture that circulated the interwebs sometime ago.
