Rasslin’ Reviews – WWE Hell In A Cell 2012

Image

Hey guys and gals.  It’s been quite a while since my last post.  Combining working a full time work schedule, exercise, spending time with my girlfriend, a vacation for Orlando, getting sick, and then combating being sick along with a hectic personal life kept me pretty busy.  And it didn’t help that I missed September’s WWE show, Night of Champions, due to the local sports bar/chicken wing establishment wasn’t showing the event.  And I feel that if I don’t watch the event, I don’t feel my opinions of the show can be genuine.  I also had to do a name change for my wrestling-related articles.

But I managed to watch WWE’s recent pay-per-view, Hell In A Cell online.  Without any further adieu, here we go!

Be Careful if You’re Buying the 3DS Version of Zero Escape : Virtue’s Last Reward….

It’s strange enough that I’m writing an article instead of streaming, but I can’t stream either cause a hurricane’s about to hit.  Bummer.  Instead I’m here to help get out a really big issue that’s apparently affecting 3DS versions of Virtue’s Last Reward.

So I spent about 15 hours going through three paths worth of dialogue and 7 or so puzzle rooms, encountered a room that crashed my game costing about an hour of reading because I don’t save often.  To make sure it wouldn’t happen again, I saved while inside the puzzle room — the game crashed again.  Upon reloading I discovered that my saved data was corrupted and I have to delete it because the fucking game only has one file you can save data to….

Apparently I’m not the only person that came across either the game crashing bug or the save corrupting bug.  Also, the bug seems to be present in the Japanese version, so if they haven’t patched over there yet, I wouldn’t expect a US patch anytime soon.

While I cry for my lost 15 hours, you guys be careful where you save if you plan on playing the 3DS version of Virtue’s Last Reward.  The biggest culprits seem to be the PEC room which is where my game went to hell and Crew’s Quarters, but after this I’m not taking chances with any room.

How Card F41 Got Me Into Another Card Craze (And Why I Got Out In The First Place)

It might not be obvious to some of our readers out there, but a few of us on the staff are Bronies (male adult fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic). I’m especially hyped to finally see Season 3 starting up on November 10th. There’s an unfinished, unpublished article right now explaining this little cartoon renaissance I went through last year that started with my watching of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and then spread into shows like Adventure Time, Gumball, Regular Show, Transformers Prime, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, and The Looney Toons show. When it came to the merch of My Little Pony, from the beginning I said I wouldn’t buy the toys. Yeaaah… But make no mistake, I loathe the brushables and much prefer the molded hair ponies. And I’m still not interested in buying those small blindbag ponies (even though I’m constantly tempted when they actually bother making a new mold instead of Mortal Kombat-ing the whole thing).

But one thing I wanted to avoid was the trading cards. My personal experience with trading cards is… somewhat turbulent early on and ended with a silent phase out at the conclusion of my highschool years. So what’s getting me back into trading cards again? What is it about this cross-eyed little wonder that’s enticing me into collecting these small pieces of printed paper. Hit the jump and find out.

Multiplayer Gaming Nights : Sen’s Fortress Edition

It’s good to be typing again!

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working hard to get my game stream working for the blog and haven’t had much room for articles.  Still learning the streaming process and learning how to use Twitch.tv and exporting to Youtube.  Getting sound to work properly is a bitch, but I’m getting used to it.

My streams are often long and cover every moment I spend playing a game, even the boring parts.  Multiplayer Gaming Nights is where I gather some of our favorite moments and share them.  Remember to increase your video quality in the embed, because I still haven’t found a way to default in HD.

No More Gamefly In My House: What I Rented, And What I Bought [UPDATE]

Well, the time has come to end Gamefly in our house. We’ve had fun with the service, but due to some circumstances, it was time we ended it (for now at least). I’ve had my gripes with the service, but I got my chance to play games that I would otherwise not consider (or not pay full retail price for). There were some games that were pretty damn awesome, and a few that made me happy that I only went as far as renting it. One thing I wished I would be able to do was to actually review these games within the time I had them. But several things (namely Xenoblade) would come up and I would be unable to review them fully. Other times, I began to forget the premise of the games, the gameplay, the stories, and any specific things that may have occurred while I played. So I would like to take this chance to at least talk about these games and how I felt about them. I would also like to reveal the one game I eventually bought as a result of Gamefly. So after the break, the games I bought.

Ace Attorney 5 Announced, Hachi Seeks His Fancy Tie and Wig

He’s here to kick ass and provide evidence. And he’s all out of ass…

After several years of languishing in the depths of the “Shit We Don’t Talk About Because We Need To Focus On Re-releasing Our Fighting Games” closet at Capcom, website “My Nintendo News” revealed that the latest issue of Famitsu (basically the premier video game magazine in Japan, and part time Mos Eisley Cantina) features the announcement of the long-awaited Ace Attorney 5, in development for the 3DS. Yup, no “Investigations” spin-off this time, or Layton crossover. It’s an honest-to-goodness mainline installment. This news has me…slightly excited.

Actual photo of Hachi’s room when he heard the news.

Online Gaming Nights : WKC2 Wind Dragon, Dark Souls Testing and Operation Raccoon Shitty

I’m back with more awesome moments and bloopers from my time playing games online.  Fellow editor Prota is also present in these clips along with a couple other friends.  Remember to change youtube’s settings to HD, I still don’t know how to get the embed defaulted to HD yet and the standard image looks like shit!

To start, who likes watching epic battles against a generic big monster?  Who also likes watching the local wizard panic at the last second while all her teammates are down and she’s one hit from dead?  Perhaps you also like White Knight Chronicles 2?  While I’ll be the first to say that the single player campaign (for the WKC2 arc) is shit, there’s a lot of fun to be had if you can get some friends online for multiplayer.

We went into this fight waaaaay underlevelled, and what should have been a 4 – 5 minute battle became much more than that.  Personally, I’m the kind of RPG player that prefers an incredible fight at a handicap to being so powerful that the enemy is decimated.  Those with similar taste might enjoy the show, check it out!

Sly Cooper : Thieves in Time Demo Impressions

Just this week Ratchet & Clank was given the PS3 collection treatment like its cousins, Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper.  When these three trilogies came out originally, I was getting exhausted of playing so many platformer games and ignored them.  I’ll be honest : I’m still trying to plow through the Jak saga and only bought Ratchet so that I could get my hands on the Sly 4 demo.  That series only caught my attention when I finished Infamous 1/2 and wanted to play other games developed by Sucker Punch, and I loved my Sly Collection ever since.

That brings us to Thieves in Time.  Sucker Punch passed the development baton over to Sanzaru Games, the team responsible for remastering the original trilogy.  This demo is short, and frankly, hasn’t convinced me that I should purchase this game at launch.

The Last Story Ends My Relationship With GameStop

About two weeks ago XSEED released The Last Story to the masses… Hold on, let me correct that. XSEED shipped The Last Story to the masses. Of course on August 14 I called GameStop and I was told that they didn’t have it in yet. You can see how that all went down here. So then, On Thursday of that week there was a podcast taping, so I wasn’t going to have a chance to pick up the game. Looking online, it looks like GameStop wouldn’t have it until that Friday. So I made a good choice to not bother calling them. However, upon coming home something happened that pretty much solidified my choice in stores for the foreseeable future.

Check out all 3 Resident Evil 6 intro cut-scenes!

Caution Spoiler in the video!

Well, well, well another day, another Resident Evil 6 spoiler! This nifty video uploaded by the folks over at The Sixth Axis, shows all 3 major campaign introductory cut scenes. While we have already seen Chris and Leon’s intro cut-scenes, we have yet to see Jake’s.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m getting  more and more annoyed by the things being show. By the time the game comes out the only thing that wouldn’t be spoiled are the end credits.

Online Gaming Night : White Knight Chronicles 2 – Death of the Polkan King

While some of you guys were just hearing the shitty news of an iOS port of The World Ends With You, I was in the middle of a great gaming night with my buds.

Because of its lukewarm reception from critics and abundance of other options, we held off playing White Knight Chronicles for quite a while.  It even took a little convincing before our teammate, Soma would buy a copy.  Last night was all about bringing him in for our first night of questing together.  What better initiation is there than finishing a quest that we previously finished illegitimately?

A Gabriel Knight 2 Slide Show (Part 1)

Here’s something to watch if you ever find yourself bored.  And yes I’m aware this is likely the most shitty video I’ve ever recorded.

Gabriel Knight 2 is a fascinating game.  The acting is often terrible, some puzzles have the most obscure solutions and most of my time is spent snapping shots, trying to find the right ones to publish when it comes time for review.

I Stand On My Soapbox: The Summer Gaming Drought

I Stand On My Soapbox is a series of editorials that cover more specific topics in the games industry and community. These articles are a little more extreme than normal editorials published here, and could just degenerate to outright ranting. Have fun and enjoy the show!

Why is this? Why the hell does this always happen? Why do game companies decide to keep all of their big releases for the holiday season? Hm? Why are all of these games pushed back to a very crowded time of the year for videogames, where it’s harder for most games to get noticed? Time and again I’ve seen companies release their game on November and December, get back their results, see their games flop, and wonder to hell and back why their games failed to sell. And yet, here we are in the middle of Summer just sitting back and twiddling out fingers wondering what game is coming out this Summer. Well guess what? There’s barely any, and it boggles my mind! You’d think Summer would be a perfect time to release these games. And yet, not a lot of companies see this. Well, I’m going to show why Summer is the best time to release videogames.

Rise of the Triad Making its Triumphant Return

How the fuck did I miss this?  A reboot of Rise of the Triad?  Dog mode and weird floating platforms making a return?  Graphic killing of Nazi soldiers as they beg for their lives using modern visuals?  Consider me pumped!

Originally intended to be an expansion to Id’s hit, Wolfenstein 3-D, RotT was designed for that particular engine.  When Id dropped that plan, possibly because Doom would be looming around the corner, it was instead developed as a whole new game running on a more modern engine.

That’s good, because Wolfenstein 3-D’s engine wasn’t really suited for outdoor environments which is a big part of this game’s atmosphere.  What resulted is a pretty gory game for its time where people would regularly blow up.  Because height was no longer an issue like it would have been as an expansion, we see a whole bunch of trampolines that take advantage of taller rooms.
